March 2, 1979, Fort Pierre, SD - The Lyman Raiders (19-4) have just won the Region IV championship game, by defeating the previously undefeated Chamberlain Cubs (22-1) in overtime by a score of 51 to 48. The this is the first time since 1926 that a team from Lyman County would go to the state tournament. It would also be the first of many trips to the state tournament for Lyman over the next 17 years (and possibly later, since I've lost track).

Yes, this picture is blurry, and was taken slightly early as far as the unfinished placement of the sign goes. I was too thrilled to concentrate.

Holding the sign up is Kim King, sister of Kevin King, one of the starters on the team. Holding the other end up is Trent Guffin, but I accidentally left him out of the picture since I took the picture before the sign was centered.

From left to right in the back row: Assistant Coach Lynn Frederick (who would become a perennial champion coach at Brookings, SD, High School in later years); Coach Bob Hodgson, Lenny Moore (who forgot to take off his game glasses), Kevin King, Morgan Hullinger, Vance Severyn, Mike Diedrich, Clayton Brown, Tom Schindler, Mark Lintvedt and Tami Schindler.

Middle row: Darla Lintvedt, Gretchen Garnos (slightly behind Darla), Lorna Mortenson, Crystal Wendt (sister of No. 23 Deron Wendt) and Stephanie Smith.

Front row (kneeling): Bret McClanahan, Deron Wendt, Rod Cleveland, Lee Borah, Kaylynn Jones, Julie Moore and Karmen King (sister of Kevin and Kim).

Interesting side note: One of the starters on the Chamberlain Cubs team was Randy Heimstra. He and Kevin King would eventually become starting teammates (and good friends) on the Northern State College Wolves Basketball team (located in Aberdeen, SD) (see what I mean?). In March 1984, the Wolves went to the NAIA Divsion II National Tournament with a record of 28-3 (and I was there). Regrettably, they lost in the first round. Somewhat ironically, Randy became a teacher and coach at Lyman High School in the late 1980s and/or early 1990s. I was still living there then, and he and I crossed paths a few times, but never got to know one another. In 1998, I got a job as computer-network administrator at Alliance Middle School in Alliance, Nebraska. Coincidentally, Randy was a PE teacher at the middle school, as wel las head coach of the high school girls' basketball team. We finally got to know one another pretty well as coworkers. He's a heck of a decent guy underneath that "gruff" exterior. ;-)

I'm so scared it actually blows because this is by far the hardest transformation I've ever done. Perhaps because it was the first female one? ( I find it a lot easier to turn into a guy than a woman. I'm not sure what it says about me but it's the truth ). Perhaps because she's so beautiful I felt like I would never be able to render her perfect features ...

Anyhow, I had a blast turning into the gorgeous Kim Kardashian and I hope you like the result

This week we are on a Scavenger Hunt. Our challenge is what I see "through my window(s)".

I just couldn't decide on one, so I did several...(I sure hope you don't mind.) I mentioned the white birches earlier, and then there are the foothills and throw in some grapefruit trees next door and of course a "grilling area" with some ever~growing plumerias. Between the jasmine & the plumerias and grapefruit blossoms, the scent out there can be intoxicating.
