A-ho-ho a killing machine, you see? Self activated!

Very retro. Low tech.

even going downhill, in mud, it takes forever to chew through frost (up to two feet) and rocks

a sack of Bentonite comapred to my foot

note the notches around the drum. this rig does not have brakes on the drum that are automatically applied. instead you have to manually drop a catch into the notches and let the line down so that everything catches. slightly labor intensive.

sometimes when you're digging out a caved out area in the trench, you catch the pipe, and plastic pipe truly isn't any match for a John Deere 510

the lower shaft is the main drive for the table. pulling a lever releases the brake on the drum so that the table turns, releasing of course stops the table.

after the rig was moved. well and the pile of dirt that came out of it.

the oval shaped rod is the throttle, applied by pushing it with the right leg, slightly below the knee.

The Dog Bear, and a plate of North Atlantic wild salmon, hot off the grill.

the steel extension on the left goes down a spiral slide in the table until it hits a stop, beginning to turn the kelly and bit in the process.

Stealing ideas from my fellow Photo-a-day'ers, and combining them.. :) Robots and Triptych.

in the down position, as they are, the catches are engaged on the cable drums and the drums are locked. these are essential as the brake is only applied by pulling a lever.

7 February 2013 Looks can be deceiving. Poppy may seem playful, but I dare you to tickle her belly.

the cylinder pulls on the pulley block to pull the bucket out. there are three pulleys per block. remember your physics to figure out why three pulleys are beneficial.

Despite the beauty, several million years of evolution should remind one to be ever so slightly afraid.

ford power, chrysler radiator protector, chevy truck. truly a mutt.

In the mid 19th century experiments were conducted on a more humane method of execution. This device was called the cruncher. The convicted/ condemned criminal was placed between the two steel plates. The crank was then turned pushing the two plates together via a giant screw. Eventually crushing it's victim in a bloody explosion.

It was also used in the filming of Star Wars episode IV. It played an important role as "The Garbage Mashers on the Detention level."

note the square in the center. the kelly connects to the bit via this hole with a pin through both to connect.
