I have watched these birds both Male & Female over the past 18 years fly over, fly through, fly past, fly in and out of my Leighton Buzzard Garden and never has one stopped long enough for me to get a quick snap. Well today was the day I managed to get a quick shot before she/he flew off to devour the poor little starling what an amazing killing machine these magnificent birds are :-)

Working parts of a M61 Vulcan 20mm canon system. The M61 Vulcan is a hydraulically or pneumatically driven, six-barrel, air-cooled, electrically fired Gatling-style rotary cannon which fires 20 mm rounds at an extremely high rate (typically 6,000 rounds per minute or 100 rounds per second). Was tempted to throw myself down in the container and let them get this roll rolling for a bit.

I was strongly advised not to.

Parsnip just awakened me with a couple of loud mews. As this is fairly unusual, I got up to see that all was OK. She seemed fine, and at first I wondered what set her off. Then I saw, in the middle of the living room carpet, a rather large mouse, dead as could be. Occasionally, one somehow gets into the apartment, and my little predator wanted to make sure she got credit for her clean act of assassination. Although I am queasy about killing mice myself, I am quite happy to have Parsnip remove any such moral dilemmas for me.

The British Mark I was the world's first combat tank, entering service in the middle of World War I, born of the need to break the domination of trenches and machine guns over the battlefields of the Western Front. Along with its subsequent variants, it was the most successful heavy tank of the war. This tank was developed to be able to cross trenches, resist small-arms fire, travel over difficult terrain, carry supplies, and be able to capture fortified enemy positions. It is regarded as successful in many respects, but suffered from many problems due to its primitive nature.
