Down town Ally - Had lots of fun covering these two in our sticky blood as people passed by wondering what the fuck we were doing!
Bike Kill V made me fall in love with New York all over again. After going to the Mississippi this summer, falling asleep under the stars, living the magic that is the Miss Rockaway - New York just wasn't that amazing anymore. But she has been showing me, little by little, what our love is all about. And then, it was all at once, at Bike Kill.
This was my 4th time at the Bike Kill, and it knocked all the other times on their ass. All the stimulus, all at once - the bike wheel made of boots, the surf bikes, the bike I can't even describe. At times Bike Kill became a full-on dance party, on a street perfectly lubricated by all the beer spilled on it. Someone did a jump *over* a tall bike. Brandy magically appeared from St. Louis and triumphed yet again at the joust. I even met a flickr friend, Alex, whose world I know through pictures, in the flesh. And, for the first time, I got to see Jeff Stark dance.
I was talking to Porter about utopias, micro-nations, reclaim the street. This was a TAZ (Temporary Autonomous Zone), or pirate utopia, on a dead end street between an elementary school and a Home Depot parking lot. It was like being on the Rockaway, a ship of fools, about to ride over the precipice into sheer delirium. It was beautiful.
It culminated in a chicken fight between A'yen, Tracy, Robyn and myself - on the shoulders of Wendell, Lisa, Porter and Brandy (all Rockaway refugees). I fell, I knew I was about to fall, I braced myself, a few people fell on top of me, there was broken glass somewhere, but somehow I got up unscathed.
I love New York again. This is where I've found people who dance in the streets, paint the town red, get away with it, turn every day life on its head in the most unlikely places and feed a hundred people with the contents of a trash can. I may leave some day, a pirate utopia can be hiding anywhere, but for now I'll take Brooklyn - broken glass and all.
Mosquitoes are carriers of some of the world’s worst viruses and bacteria causing viral, fatal and infectious diseases. In many countries they transmit and spread mosquito-borne diseases, diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever, West Nile Virus, and Elephantiasis to more than 700 million people around the globe every year. A report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control says that the insects kill more than one million people a year through the transmission of malaria. So what can one do about this threat? Mosquito population control. Here are 3 ways to reduce their population:

Kill Rare Birds and Win Prizes. Not very ethical by today's standards, but no-one thought twice about this sort of thing back in the day...
Reminds me a lot of Joseph Cornell's Habitat Group for a Shooting Gallery and his Untitled 1942 box with birds and logarithm tables...
