Kill Rare Birds and Win Prizes. Not very ethical by today's standards, but no-one thought twice about this sort of thing back in the day...
Reminds me a lot of Joseph Cornell's Habitat Group for a Shooting Gallery and his Untitled 1942 box with birds and logarithm tables...
Sky Pirates are of the most loathsome and despicable race known in all of the world. They are born and bred to be thieves and murderers, hated and feared by all who encounter them. Each of the different family clans of the Sky Pirates have their own style of airship, most made very roughly, and showing little outward beauty, for the pirates care nothing for beauty or outward appearance. And at birth, each newborn pirate is said to have their left eyes plucked unceremoniously from their heads, as to show a gruesome and fearful appearance later in life to all who are their victims.
Spyre was born into this unholy and unlucky life. She had her eye taken at birth, was taught that murder and thievery were as easy as drinking water, and that the air was where her spirit belonged. Not land where she could be taken advantage of and killed.
But Spyre was not fond of that life. She dreamed of freedom, sailing in the sky, and kindness was hidden deep in her heart. And so, along with her best friend Artemis, she built in secret an air vessel, and one night, without a fear, she sailed away from that life of terror, and never looked back...

On October 28, 2014, Mayor Ras J. Baraka, members of the Newark Municipal Council, Police Director Eugene Venable, Fire Director James W. Stewart, representatives of other Newark municipal agencies, clergy, New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford, and community members held a media briefing at the Clinton Avenue Firehouse, located at 360 Clinton Avenue, in the City’s South Ward. The media briefing was followed by a Neighborhood Community Foot Patrol.
Mr. Weatherford gave out 750 smoke detectors to Newark residents during the foot patrol. Mr. Weatherford is nationally recognized for his extensive philanthropic work with his primary outreach focused on children and families. In addition to being the spokesperson of Second Chance Toys, Steve serves as Health and Fitness Ambassador for the Boys and Girls Club of New Jersey, and head coach for Wellness in the Schools. He was moved to donate smoke detectors to the Newark Fire Department after a Father’s Day fire that killed five Newark residents.
The smoke detectors are being given away to promote fire safety in the City of Newark, as residents enter the winter heating season.
