Keefer Lake is ice free! Typically, all of the ice is not off the lake until the first or second week of May. It's very unusual for it to be all gone on April 14 - perhaps it is a record? It has been a very mild winter by comparison to our average but the ice was very thick this year (approx. 1.5 meters) because of the relatively small amount of snowfall throughout the season. The cold is able to penetrate the lake water deeper than usual because of the lack of the insulating properties of snow on top.
This is a 'merge' of three different exposures ... the dynamic range of the light in the scene was too great for the camera so I did a three stop shot (-1, 0 +1) and combined the images. I suppose that makes it an HDR image which normally I am not that fond of but I think it works reasonably well here.

A shot taken with my phone ... say it isn't so.
The ice is getting too thin on Keefer Lake to be safe for ice fishing and folks are taking their ice huts in .... a sure sign that Spring is 'around the corner.' This hut is fashionably 'post modern' in colour and style. :)
