This is a Chinese Juniper I dug from a friends front yard in 1994. After an initial severe pruing/shaping, I planted it in the ground for a year, moved it to a large wood box for a couple years and then a plastic bonsai pot of another couple years. In 2005 I found this pot in a pottery store in Seattle and knew it was perfect.

Junipers are in abundance in the Mojave, frequently growing among rocks and washes. They frequently co-occur with the Pinyon Pine in what is known as Pinyon-Juniper Woodlands, which cover large swaths of Nevada.

The Jardine Juniper is a Juniperus scopulorum, core samples taken in the 1950s revealed that it was actually over 1500 years old. It stands approximately 40 feet tall and its circumference has been measured at 284 inches.

Flown the coop !

My Juniper Bonsai decided to leave its pot today.

Thankfully no damage to the tree but I guess massive rain washed all the soil from the roots and its pot and high winds launched the tree a few feet away .

If not for anything I added sphagnum moss to fresh potting soil worked the soil in the roots, re positioned the tree

more centered in its pot .

It will be a miracle if this lives to see spring .

Pretty tough bet as it stands now ,its marginally where I wanted it to be in the work I've done so far.

Juniper Berries - I hope you enjoy this photograph. Feel free to give me all the constructive criticism you can on the photo because it would be much appreciated so I can grow as a photographer.

Many a tasty beer at Juniper Brewing in Redmond, Oregon. There wasn't a bad one in the bunch. Our favorite was definitely the Karol Alt but other great ones were the Central Oregon Citra Summer Ale, Tap Root Red & Old Roy IPA. We'll definitely be back!

I spotted a small native redbud tree blooming by a tiny creek near the side of the road along Cow Creek in the hill country of northwestern Travis County. Much to my surprise, the blooms were covered by dozens of small juniper hairstreak butterflies. I've never seen so many of this species in one place before.
