Flatter-Binse (Juncus effusus) im Naturschutzgebiet „St. Arnualer Wiesen“

Too lazy to run & get my Lensbabies out, I decided to try soft focussing with my Nikon 105mm f/2.8 macro lens. I am very happy with the results.

Flatter-Binse (Juncus effusus) an der Saar in Saarbrücken

Juncus effusus apparently not only tolerates saline soils but it also might well be a hardy and unpalatable species as evinced by the many populations untouched by wild horses. This site lies within Exmoor National Park.

Flatter-Binse (Juncus effusus) an der Saar in Saarbrücken

Juncus effusus—common rush. A cosmopolitan species found throughout the world. Indeed, it is probably easier to list the countries where it does not occur than those where it does. Loves moist places. Invasive in pastures at times because livestock won't eat it. Used in Japan as the covering for tatami mats. Stems dipped in fat were used in former times as a substitute for candles throughout Europe. Plant is found at Regional Parks Botanic Garden located in Tilden Regional Park near Berkeley, CA.

Common rush look at little hedged because this is in a cattle pasture. A very hardy rush this survives heavy trampling & grazing if water is available & sometimes is one of the few survivors.

After installing our recycled spiral staircase from Second Use in 2006, we were left with a very dangerous situation, one misstep and a 9 foot drop fall to the shade garden was certain death! I very cautiously gardened up here for the first 2 1/2 years. Then as luck would have it, our friends were having new railings made for the deck on their Spanish Revival "casa" and offered these railings to us! THANK YOU DANNY & CLAUDIA ! ! ! You are life savers~~~~~
