A ferry being loaded for taking people,goods and even vehicles across to Majuli,an island in the mighty River Brahmaputra near Jorhat in Assam in north-east India.Majuli has been recognized as the largest river island by the Guinness Book of records.It was approx 1025 sq kms in area at the beginning of the last century but due to erosion it is now around 352 sq kms in area .It is the centre of Assamese neo-Vaishnavite culture.
You can catch a glimpse of Majuli on the far side of the river.
Unfortunately we had no time to explore Majuli on this trip but we mean to go back sometime.:-)
