The kettles are formed as a result of blocks of ice calving from glaciers and becoming submerged in the sediment on the outwash plain. Another source is the sudden drainage of an ice-dammed lake. When the block melts, the hole it leaves behind is a kettle. As the ice melts, ramparts can form around the edge of the kettle hole. The lakes that fill these holes are seldom more than 10 m (33 ft) deep and eventually become filled with sediment. In acid conditions, a kettle bog may form but in alkaline conditions, it will be kettle peatland.

Supan mikroilmasto on mielenkiintoinen, sillä lämpötila laskee supan pohjalle mentäessä jopa useita asteita koska kylmä ilma valuu sen pohjalle. Ilmiön voi havaita muun muassa keväisin: kun muut alueet ovat jo vapautuneet lumesta, supan pohjalla on usein vielä lunta ja jäätä. Lämpötilan lasku ilmenee myös supan rinteen kasvillisuudessa.

Kuukelin ampuminen tietää ruotsalaisen ja norjalaisen kansanperinteen mukaa aseen tärvääntymistä ampumakelvottamaksi. Suomalaisia kohdellaan perinteessä julmimmin. Jos ammut kuukkelin, metsästysonni on menetetty loppuiäksi. Norjalaisen perinteen mukaan on paras pysyä poissa metsätöistä, jos sinne mennessäsi näet kuukkelin. Se tietää sille päivälle jotain onnettomuutta. Norjalaisten mielestä kuukkelin ääni on jostain maan alta tulevaa maahisten ääntä."

Amerikansuomalaiset toivat lahjana viisi valkohäntäpeuraa 1930-luvulla Laukon kartanon maille, mutta peurat lopulta karkasivat aitauksesta. Luonnonvarakeskuksen mukaan nykyään Suomessa saattaa elää jopa 98 000 valkohäntäpeuraa.

The whole white-tailed deer population in Finland started here on the grounds of Laukko mansion. Five deer was brought in 1930's by Finnish Americans as a gift to their former home country but eventually the deer escaped from this corral. Estimates say that today there could be as many as 98 000 white-tailed deer living in Finland.

60103 "Flying Scotsman" and two coaches, head south over Dunglass Viaduct with the Joppa Straight to York NRM (5Z30) train. This was a move to get it back to the NRM after its eventful visit to Scotland.
Dunglas Viaduct crosses the Dunglass Burn which forms the boundary between East Lothian and the Scottish Borders (formerly Berwickshire).

Lately I've been in kind of a photography rut and haven't gone to anywhere special to shoot pictures. For a long time I've had this feeling that I've been photographing with the same settings and and same focal lengths and same compositions over and over again and I haven't really created anything new. Usually I photograph just by myself but this time it was really refreshing to go and shoot pictures with a fellow photographer. It was nice to see how differently other photographers see the same scenery as you do and it was great to be able to talk about photography related things with someone. Awesome trip and awesome company!

Valokuvausreissu Heikki Saarisen kanssa Ikaalisten Kalliokoskelle.
Viime aikoina ei ole ollut kovin paljoa motivaatiota lähteä valokuvaamaan mitään. Pitkään on tuntunut siltä että olen "kaavoihin kangistunut" kuvaamisessa, ja on tuntunut todella vaikealta lähteä luomaan "jotain uutta". Lähes aina käyn kuvaamassa yksin, mutta nyt oli todella virkistävää lähteä kuvaamaan yhdessä toisen valokuvaajan kanssa. Hauska nähdä kuinka erilaisena toinen näkee saman maiseman kuin itse, ja hienoa päästä pitkästä aikaa puhumaan kaikesta mahdollisesta valokuvaukseen liittyvästä. Luulen että tältä reissulta löytyi jopa uutta motivaatiota taas, hieno reissu!

Jaffa (Hebrew: יָפוֹ, Yafo; Arabic: يَافَا, ArJaffa.ogg Yāfā (; also Japho, Joppa) is an ancient port city believed to be one of the oldest in the world.
Jaffa is located south of Tel Aviv, Israel on the Mediterranean Sea. Today it is part of the Tel Aviv-Yafo municipality.
The name of Jaffa or Yafo is most probably a western Semitic one, being related to the Hebrew word yafah, which signifies "beautiful" (fem) .[2] (or agreeable, "pulchritudo aut decor", as explains the Dutch author Adrichomius in his XVII cent. description of the Holy Land) In the Hebrew Bible the Mediterranean is called the Yaffa Sea - Yam Yafo ים יפו and in the Jewish Midrash -the Sea of Yaffa - Yamá shel Yafo ימה של יפו.
The name of the city is mentioned in the Egyptian sources and the Amarna Letters as Yapu There are several legends about the origin of the name Jaffa. Some say it is named for Japheth, one of the sons of Noah, who built it after the Great Flood. The Hellenist tradition links the name to "Iopeia", which is Cassiopeia, the mother of Andromeda. Pliny the Elder associates the name with Jopa, the daughter of Aeolus, god of wind. In the New Testament, it is called Ἰόππη (Ioppē), usually rendered Joppa in English translations.
The Arab geographer Al-Muqaddasi mentions it under the name Yaffa, which is used by the Arabs till nowadays.

Humden lentokenttä näkyy edessä laaksossa. Huusin innoissani kun tämä maisema avautui eteemme. Oppaani tiuski halveksuvasti koska sää oli niin huono. Hän valitti sateesta silloinkin kun ei satanut. Tässä vaiheessa alkoi olla selvää että hän haluaa kääntyä takaisin, mutta en ottanut selvää onko jatkaminen vaarallista tai jopa mahdotonta, vai onko oppaallani vain koti-ikävä.
Viitasaaren Huopanankoski on tuntemistani paikoista paras paikka löytää koskikaroja. Koski ei jäädy milloinkaan. Karoja on siellä useampia, eivätkä ne ole niin pelokkaita kuin seinäjokelaiset koskikarat. Jos malttaa odottaa kyykistyneenä ja liikkumatta, lintu saattaa tulla jopa 10 m etäisyydelle.

While shore rocks are sleeping on the foreground, Porvoo city lights glow behind the horizon, lighting up the night sky. Both interstellar dust (Great Rift) and hiding stars of our Milky Way galaxy are visible in the sky, regardless to the yellowish light pollution covering a part of the night sky dome.
Above, and slightly on the right side of the Milky Way dust cloud locates a star known as Vega, some 25 light years away from us. You can see another star shining below the dust cloud, almost straight below Vega. That another star is named as Altair, approximately 17 light years away from the Earth.
There is a third bright star which you can find by catching the middle of Vega and Altair stars, moving your eyes on the left side of both, over the galactic dust cloud. This star is known as Deneb, locating considerably further away than the two ones. Distance estimations vary between 1600-3200 light years.
These three stars, Vega, Altair and Deneb - form a Summer Triangle constellation. The nomination of the constellation originates in an assertion which states that it's visible in the sky even in the bright summer season.
As the Summer Triangle appears in the spring sky, it augurs ill for a night-time photographer, being a sign that astrophotography season for the spring 2014 is approaching its end. Reason for that is our own star, the Sun, which sets less and less down below the horizon in Finland as the Spring progresses. However, there are alternatives: either I have to gather my goods and travel toward the tropics, or enjoy finnish summer until the darkening evenings of autumn will roll once again to the sky.

Iltaräpsy Porvoon Emäsalosta:
Etualalla rantakivikkoa, taustalla kajastaa Porvoon kaupungin valot. Iltataivaalla kotigalaksimme Linnunradan tähtienvälistä pölyä (Suuri Repeämä) sekä galaksissamme lymyileviä tähtiä. Löytyypä iltataivaalta keltaisena hehkuvaa valosaastettakin kiitettävästi.
Linnunradan pölykiekon yläpuolelta hieman oikealta puolelta löytyy noin 25 valovuoden päässä sijaitseva naapuritähti Vega. Vegasta alaspäin pölykiekon alalaidasta löytyy noin 17 valovuoden päässä sijaitseva tähti Altair.
Vegan ja Altairin puolesta välistä, vasemmalta puolelta galaktisen pölykiekon päältä löytyy huomattavasti kauempana sijaitseva tähti Deneb. Arviot Denebin etäisyydestä huitelevat välillä 1600-3200 valovuotta.
Nämä kolme tähteä - Vega, Altair ja Deneb - muodostavat Kesäkolmiona tunnetun tähtikuvion, jonka väitetään näkyvän jopa kesäaikaan iltataivaalla.
Kesäkolmion ilmestyminen keväiselle iltataivaalle tietää pulmallisia aikoja kameran kanssa yöaikaan liikkuvalle yökyöpelille, nimittäin tähtikuvausessioiden loppua vuoden 2014 kevään osalta. Syynä on oma tähtemme aurinko, joka ei kevään edetessä enää laske tarpeeksi alas horisontin alapuolelle Suomen leveyspiireillä. Vaihtoehtoina on ottaa kimpsut ja kampsut kasaan, ja nokka kohti tropiikkia taikka vietellä suomalaista kesää ja odotella syksyn pimeiden kelien vyörymistä yötaivaalle.
