Elizabeth joined us for a small group shoot at the house in mid-March. It was a nice relaxing shoot - and no one froze. She is such a blast to shoot with but she is also very quiet so I'm never sure if she likes what we're doing or not.

I'm taking a break from soft and pretty scenery today.
I always love shooting people, but on this trip there was little opportunity. This was taken at breakfast at a local restaurant right after one of our early morning shoots. BTW, we left at 4AM . . . that's early!
let's have a great weekend!!!!!!!!!

Last week I joined the Get Pushed group. I was looking for inspiration, and hoped I would find some here. So this is my first Get Pushed try! I got paired with ever-creative and fun Emeraldgirl. It was a pleasure going through her photostream - it made me laugh out loud more than once. Here's what she had in mind for me:
"So my challenge to you is to [...] do a selfie where you are wearing red in an otherwise monochrome setting. And the trick is to express how red makes you feel in that setting. Find a spot that is dark, dreary and otherwise dull and really pop that red colour with emotion. No black and white with selective colour though - it should come right from the camera."
I was struck by how she challenged me to do exactly what I would never do normally. First of all, as a rule I don´t do selfies - or at least do not post them here. I´m definitely not model material, and I am kind of a private person - can you tell? And then, I don´t like red. It´s just not my colour.
Even so, I got excited about this challenge right away. How to fulfil the challenge without compromising my own feelings about it. Inspiration hit me like a truck, my mind filled with all kind of wild ideas. Like starting a fire in the woods, or stumbling in front of a train at night. I´ve been advised not to, suppose they´re right, I worried a bit about getting fined too;-). And red, what does it stand for? Love, warmth, sensuality, danger... I got together all the red props I could find, which weren´t many as you would expect. (I did discover I have 3 pairs of red shoes! How weird.) I even borrowed a pretty red party dress from my neighbour. But in the end, I fell for those beautiful red autumn leaves - I rescued the last few of them out of the garden this afternoon.
Now if you think this was easy, think again. There I was, lying on the cold - dull grey! - kitchen floor, trying to get those leaves to stick to my face, all but buttered up my face. I only had a little compact mirror to try to spread them evenly. Had to call my son down to pull the trigger (I have no remote). Had to do the sticking-leaves-on-my-face-thing over again because we burst out laughing. And again. So this is how I feel in red, and I think it shows: ridiculous!
Thanks for the inspirational challenge Emeraldgirl. I´m still contemplating some of the ideas it gave me.
This is one of many shots of me draped over the sofa.
I am so happy with this outfit I brought the skirt after Christmas in the Jane Norman sale for £11 and just couldn't find anything it worked with, then the other day I teamed it up with my faithful roll neck jumper and this was the result.
So back to the question who wants to join me?
Helen Marie Deadmore
Born Helen Marie Deadmore, her mother a domestic servant and her father a butler to a Duke and Duchess.
Helen grew up poor but lived in relative luxury on the grounds of the Duke and Duchess’s estate with her parents in the servants wing. The royals had taken a shine to the young girl who was always well presented in hand me downs from their daughter and very well spoken.
The aristocratic couple had a son of a similar age, although maybe a year or two older. Helen was granted the rare gift of being permitted an education alongside their son. The young pair developed a strong friendship and once they hit their teen years had become inseparable.
When Helen was 14 her mother tragically passed away during childbirth and her father, although did his best to care for her became unintentionally neglectful. The Duchess became quite concerned and had a lady from a well reputed orphanage come and take her away. She and her husband did not know what else they could do, it was not their concern to be bringing up the child of servants.
However their son vowed that one day he would find her and bring her back, his parents hushed him in agreement hoping that one day he would find somebody more suited and forget about the servants’ daughter. He never did, he loved her more than life itself and kept his vow. When he became of age he searched the kingdom in the hope of finding her.
After many years of searching, and dropsy claiming the life of his father and pneumonia taking the life of his mother, he found his childhood sweetheart. And after a brief courtship, they married in a church not to far from the estate where they both grew up. Upon their marriage Helen Marie Deadmore became Her Grace the Duchess of Belcrest and Westermoor, a title and lifestyle she very quickly became accustomed to.
They had not produced any children when war broke out and her husband had to go and take his position as an officer in the army. Sadly the war, like all wars, was brutal and took his life. He never returned home. The absence of a funeral gave no closure to Helen and she sunk into a deep depression, but being a dowager helped her avoid being sectioned and admitted to an asylum.
The Duchess squandered her late husband’s wealth, and eventually the taxman was chasing her for unpaid taxes. She had avoided a mental asylum would she be able to avoid a debtors prison? Life in prison scared her and she was advised that the best option open to her was to sell the mansion that had been in her dead husband's family for hundreds of years.
With little money left over after settling her debt with the taxman, and being homeless for the first time in her life she searched for somewhere to live. Her cousin Edward Deadmore owned a public house in a city 100 miles away and he offered her a room above the bar. Gladly she accepted.
This was clearly not the lifestyle or environment she was used to, but she had to find a way to adjust. She had to also find a way to pay her widows tax before being in debt to the taxman again. Her cousin, although kind enough to let her the room, was not a good man and suggested she use her body to make money, he suggested that she allow the drunks up to her room if they so wished and upon payment she pleasure them., and of course he would take a cut of her earnings.
This was to be her new life, luxurious clothes in a makeshift one room brothel. Her husband had no living family that could save her from this and her only living family was her cousin, so although she had a title of Her Grace the Duchess of Belcrest and Westermoor, she was disgraced Helen Marie Deadmore.

The Burj Al Arab (Arabic: برج العرب‎, literally, Tower of the Arabs) is a luxury hotel located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. At 321 metres (1,053 ft), it is the second tallest building used exclusively as a hotel, after Rose Tower, also in Dubai. The Burj Al Arab stands on an artificial island 280 metres (919 ft) out from Jumeirah beach, and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. It is an iconic structure, designed to symbolize Dubai's urban transformation and to mimic the sail of a boat.
Burj Al Arab characterizes itself as the world's only "7-star" property, a designation considered by travel professionals to be hyperbole. There is not much one can do about composition, so it is not the most original shot by far, however it is surely a place I had on my list of places to visit for long time.

Due to Corona and family circumstances, we were unable to join Plandampf in the Werratal. But after so many years, the blood creeps where it can't go. That is why my father, my eldest son and I decided to travel to the former East Germany during the May holidays, to enjoy narrow-gauge steam.
First we visited the Zittauer Schmalspurbahn, where due to work on the Mandaubrücke in Zittau itself, only the route from Zittau Vorstadt to Jonsdorf/Oybin was used. In addition, after 68 years Bertsdorf was again 'Lokeinsatzstelle'. So a unique opportunity.
Also eine einmalige Gelegenheit.
