As we walk by the Pepperidge Farm goldfish crackers, Joe notices his favorite snack and eagerly reaches for one of the largest packages. He doesn't eat them at a very high rate, though, so the big packages get stale before he gets through them. It also shows the danger of shopping with a child.
Joe Ades, known to most as "the carrot peeler guy", was a New York City institution. He usually camped out in Union Square, but every one in a while he'd set up shop in Rockefeller Center and I could watch him do his thing during my lunch break.
When Joe died last year, he got an obituary in the New York Times. How many street vendors can you say that about?
Search for "Joe Ades" on Flickr, and you'll see I'm far from being the only person who was compelled to take his photo. :)

25 years.
We were planning to pose the "now" shot, like the "then" shot, in Government Center (where we could "make the secretaries feel bettah!"*) but we were too old and tired to bother. So we settled on Heidi's back yard in Arlington, MA. Joey refused to sit in the same position, probably because he was no longer able to do so. Standing, hands in pockets? No problem.

Joe Bonamassa at the Embassy Theatre. Wow what a show, if you ever get the chance to see Joe DO IT. Probably the best live show I have seen in a while.
