The crew from last year's NYC meetup.

This world wide creative community is powerful. It's changed my life. I've met people who inspire me. People who make me feel like I'm not alone. Like I am loved. Not because I look like I'm expected to, or say what I'm suppose to, but because I am strong enough, crazy enough, to honestly be who I am. No games.

.

I am very grateful for the experience of these three plus years. An experience that came to me unexpectedly through little, low res pictures.

.

I'm grateful, but to be honest I'm also a bit concerned.

.

I am naturally introverted. To a fault. And I'm concerned that I might have a tendency to loose the big picture in the stream of shiny images and pleasant comments. Bare with me and I'll try and explain.

.

The truly powerful thing happening here is not about pictures at all, but about friendships. So I don't want to settle for platitudes or niceties. Here's the hard truth. It is sometimes very tempting for me to take the praise in but still keep to myself. I call it hermit mode. :-) a

And hermit mode is not a good place for me.

.

Can you relate? If we're not careful, social media is kind of like "relationship junk food" isn't it? Tastes great. . . but not much substance really.

.

So this week I'm gonna make the time to buy someone a drink instead of liking their picture. I'm going to make an effort to go deeper than a three sentence comment. I'm not going let the hermit win. ;-).

.

I don't want to loose sight of the big picture. Because, in the end, if this thing is going to work, it's not really about the pictures. It's not about an app. It's not about a quick little digital boost to our egos.

.

It's about really connecting. It's about friendships.

.

Things have changed. This one time, SLR camera nerd, is now surprisingly comfortable shooting small, square, images with my phone. And, in the end, I guess I'm ok with lowering the pixel count of my jpgs. :-). But I DON'T EVER want to be ok with low resolution friendships. In the end, that's the big picture. That's what's worth while. Isn't it?.

Patterns or repetition are a great thing to look for when you're out shooting. We are drawn to things that make sense to us. Things that are patterned. Give it a try. (Corny phrase warning). ;-) You'll find that rhythm is good for more than just music.

#JJ_EXPLAINED- Are you new to the community? It's not as confusing as it seems at first. :-). Here's the deal. Sometimes it can be hard to get your pictures seen and find inspiring photographers to follow. That's why I created the forum 3 years ago. It's a place to come together for inspiration and encouragement.

Every morning, NYC time, we make a post announcing our new theme and tag. Your job is to tag images that fit the theme. You can use shots you have already posted but we really love to see the theme inspire you to find new shots. The @jj_editors, @kevinkuster and I scour the tag and repost our favorite submissions through out the day. Over half a million people might see your pic! Pretty cool stuff.

We are ALL about keeping things simple, but in the spirit of our motto, "Create to connect", we ask that you follow our only "rule". We call it the 1-2-3 rule. For every 1 image you tag, comment on 2 in the tag and like 3 others.

Glad you're here. Can't wait to see your shots. Speak up if you have questions or comments. We like to think this is the friendliest place on the internet. :-).

Hey guys. I can't say enough how much I appreciate all the hard work our editors put in every day. I'm so sorry to hear some of the new editor accounts have been deleted recently.

.

Let's first start by talking about what's going on. Bare in mind I have no inside information, but this is my best guess as I see it.

.

First of all it's important to understand it's not at all personal. No one has looked at your account and said "kill it". Basically, if your account was deleted, you are civilian collateral damage in the war between Instagram and the spammers. Put simply, a spammer wants to create tons of posts and Instagram wants to stop them. Because the whole goal for the spammers is volume. Both sides fight mostly with computers and formulas and not fingers on keyboards. So we know the planning field now.

.

The question is how to stay out of the line of fire. Answer. Do your best to look like someone with fingers and not a mindless computer. Here are some tips.

I type everything in exactly correct... But no matter what I get invalid user name and /or password message? I have to link to the email address and change the password every time.. Oh boy is this getting confusing! This last time I then changed my password again to my original pass in the hopes that it would stop the problem... I have not tried yet to see if this is the fix because of the new editors accounts and the warnings... Next feature day I'm going to check... But has anyone else had this problem?

Hey guys! :-). We're so excited to announce that we've finished our collaboration with @polaroidfotobar and their Polaroid Museum Project. Here are the final selections for the Instant Storytellers exhibit from the #jj community. There were so many inspiring submissions. Made choosing only 9 of you very hard to be honest. The featured photographers really are a great example of how diverse and exciting mobile photography is today. Be sure you try and check out the exhibit. You'll see not only these "Instant Storytellers" featured but also our giant mosaic in the Polaroid color spectrum. It's made up of thousands of your photos. How cool is that!? Thousands of you can now say your photography is displayed in a museum. I'm jealous. ;-). You'll be able to check it out, starting April 17, at Polaroid Fotobar Las Vegas located at The LINQ. Congratulations to our Instant Storytellers!.
