Emeishan (Sichuan) 2007 - view from the Jinding [goldenhead] mountain. this tower with pagoda-style roof stands alone at about 3100m. I have no idea how to get there, i think it's some kind of temple (it is a sacred mountain).

Ludhiana , 6 February 2014 -

In Haryana, the farmers would stage agitations in cities including Ambala, Karnal, Sonepat, Jind, Bhiwani, Rewari and Faridabad, whereas in Punjab these places would include Rajpura, Bathinda, Gurdaspur, Sangrur, Fazilka, Hoshiarpur, Phagwara and Ludhiana says BJP Kisan Morcha National Secretary and Prabhari Himachal Pradesh Advocate Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal. In a press statement here today he said that this Rail Roko farmer's protest all over in India on Railway tracks on that day. Grewal said that the Congress led UPA Government does not take any positive step on the demands of the farmers, now BJP Kisan Morcha is ready for Kisan Aakrosh Divas on 7th February throughout the country. He said on that day morcha workers and farmers will sit on Railway track for which Government of india will be responsible. Grewal stated that after the Kisan Adhikar Divas by Kisan Morcha on 30th January the death anniversary of Gandhi and Kisan Morcha had stage dharnas in all the 618 district centres in pain and grief to expose anti- farmer polices of Congress-led UPA government before the general public. Grewal said that in Congress led UPA Government, the farmers of our country are facing drought condition created by the policies of government. He said that when the crops are destroyed, it is the death of the farmer not the crops. He said that 1,45,000 farmers were forced to commit suicides during the UPA rule. He alleged that the Government is directly responsible for these suicides. He said that the out dated policies and non implementation of the proposed polices are behind these deaths. Grewal said that the benefit of UPA government’s loan waiver scheme went to banks and not to farmers. He said that the banks are now sending notices of attachment to farmers. The farmers of Yamuna Nagar in Haryana have even offered to give their kidney against payment of loans. Grewal said that BJP Kisan Morcha will raise issue of implementation of Swaminathan Commission regarding remunerative prices with 50% profit for the farmers. He said that our other issues are the recommendations made by the Chief Ministers Committee about compensation of Rs 10,000 per acre for risk management must also be implemented, the increased prices of mixed fertilizers must be taken back. National Secretary requested the farmers and farmer oragnisations on behalf of BJP Kisan Morcha request to participate in the Rail Roko agitation, tomorrow 7 February on Railway tracks.

The most elegant building and the prime attraction in Uch is the tomb of Bibi Jind Waddi. Her name has been described by Bibi Jalwandi and Bibi Jind Waddi as well.

Since Jind Waddi is a popular name in this region so we believe, this name would be the most appropriate.

It is described by the historians that her mausoleum was built in 1494. The basic structure of her tomb is built by bricks, embellished with stunning glazed tile mosaic. The building is erected in three octagonal stories with lower storey supported by rounded and sloping corner turrets. The second storey was supported with a narrow gallery for walking round and the third is a hemispherical dome, which crowns the building.

There is an aesthetically carved wooden mehrab in the West wall. Basically it follows the typical pattern of Multani architecture on which the tombs of Hazrat Rukn-e-Alam and the Baha-ud-Deen Zakria are built.

The outside walls of the tomb are completely covered by glazed blue colored tiles while the turrets are surmounted with a bunch of broad flowering leaves. This unique design makes it different from Multani tombs.

In the same graveyard, there is another important tomb, which is known as the grave of Ustad Ladla, the architect-mason who constructed the tomb of Bibi Jind Waddi.

Outside these splendid building, there is a common graveyard where children used to play. The bricks of the tombs are in decay. Although this place is included in the list of World Heritage but there is nothing being done so far.

These unique and majestic shrines, which are supposedly the most attractive archaeological sites in Pakistan are crumbling down to dust due to negligence and improper care of the concerned authorities.

Some 200 years ago, these buildings were destroyed by the change of course of river and floods, which washed out most of the parts of the buildings. The collapsed portions of the building should be completed on top priority basis otherwise after few years we may not find any trace of these splendid pieces of architecture.

A renovation of the collapse minaret of Chauburji in Lahore and renovation Shahi Qila is the superb examples of restoration work. Same methods should be practiced here as this is the high time to save these superb monuments.

Destructive Factors

Uch’s old city was built on a small reef. It is believed that there used to be an old castle and this small mountain is actually the remaining of that old castle. Tombs of Bahaul Haleem along with tomb of Bibi Jivindi and Ustaad Nooria lie close to each other and at the bank of that old city. Floods further made this area delicate and now these monuments stand at the edge of the high area. Soon after floods, land underneath and near the monument slipped towards the sides and played its role in the destruction. This process is not stopped as strong concrete walls are built around the monuments in order to avoid further land sliding.

Brief Description

Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries, home to more than 30% of the world's pandas which are classed as highly endangered, covers 924,500 ha with seven nature reserves and nine scenic parks in the Qionglai and Jiajin Mountains. The sanctuaries constitute the largest remaining contiguous habitat of the giant panda, a relict from the paleo-tropic forests of the Tertiary Era. It is also the species' most important site for captive breeding. The sanctuaries are home to other globally endangered animals such as the red panda, the snow leopard and clouded leopard. They are among the botanically richest sites of any region in the world outside the tropical rainforests, with between 5,000 and 6,000 species of flora in over 1,000 genera.

Mount Emei (Chinese: 峨嵋山; pinyin: Éméi Shān; Wade–Giles: O2-mei2 Shan1, pronounced [ɤ̌měɪ̯ ʂán]) is a mountain in Sichuan province, China. Mount Emei is often written as 峨眉山 and occasionally 峩嵋山 or 峩眉山 but all three are translated as Mount Emei or Mount Emeishan: the word 峨 can mean "high" or "lofty", but the mountain's name is merely a toponym that carries no additional meaning.

Orographically, Mt. Emei sits at the western rim of the Sichuan Basin. The mountains west of it are known as Daxiangling.[1] A large surrounding area of countryside is geologically known as the Permian Emeishan Large Igneous Province, a large igneous province generated by the Emeishan Traps volcanic eruptions during the Permian Period. At 3,099 metres (10,167 ft), Mt. Emei is the highest of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China.[2]

Administratively, Mt. Emei (Emeishan) is located near the county-level city of the same name (Emeishan City), which is part of the prefecture-level city of Leshan.

Mt. Emei was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.[3]

The Leshan Giant Buddha (simplified Chinese: 乐山大佛; traditional Chinese: 樂山大佛; pinyin: Lèshān Dàfó) was built during the Tang Dynasty (618–907AD). It is carved out of a cliff face that lies at the confluence of the Minjiang, Dadu and Qingyi rivers in the southern part of Sichuan province in China, near the city of Leshan. The stone sculpture faces Mount Emei, with the rivers flowing below his feet. It is the largest carved stone Buddha in the world[1] and it is by far the tallest pre-modern statue in the world.

The Mount Emei Scenic Area, including Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. It was not damaged by the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.[2]

As the bodhimaṇḍa of Samantabhadra

Mount Emei is one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China, and is traditionally regarded as the bodhimaṇḍa, or place of enlightenment, of the bodhisattva Samantabhadra. Samantabhadra is known in Mandarin as Pǔxián Púsà (普賢菩薩).

16th and 17th century sources allude to the practice of martial arts in the monasteries of Mount Emei[4] made the earliest extant reference to the Shaolin Monastery as Chinese boxing's place of origin.[5]

[edit]Buddhist architecture on Emei

This is the location of the first Buddhist temple built in China in the 1st century CE.[3] The site has seventy-six Buddhist monasteries of the Ming and Qing period, most of them located near the mountain top. The monasteries demonstrate a flexible architectural style that adapts to the landscape. Some, such as the halls of Baoguosi, are built on terraces of varying levels, while others, including the structures of Leiyinsi, are on raised stilts. Here the fixed plans of Buddhist monasteries of earlier periods were modified or ignored in order to make full use of the natural scenery. The buildings of Qingyinge are laid out in an irregular plot on the narrow piece of land between the Black Dragon River and the White Dragon River. The site is large and the winding foot path is 50 km, taking several days to walk.[6]

Cable cars ease the ascent to the two temples at Jinding (3,077 m), an hour's hike from the mountain's peak.[2][7]

[edit]Sunrise and clouds sea

Great spectacles of Mount Emei include the sunrise and Clouds Sea seen from the Golden Summit of the mountain.

The sunrise is very varied, but optimally begins with the ground and sky being in the same dark purple, soon showing rosy clouds, followed by a bright purple arc and then a semicircle where the sun is coming up.[8]

The Clouds Sea includes several cloud phenomena, e.g. clouds appearing in the sky above, in addition to the regular clouds beneath.[8]

[edit]Climate

The summit of Mount Emei has an alpine subarctic climate (Köppen Dwc), with long, cold (but not severely so) winters, and short, cool summers. The monthly daily average temperature ranges from −5.7 °C (21.7 °F) in January to 11.6 °C (52.9 °F), and an annual mean of 3.07 °C (37.5 °F). Precipitation is common year-round, but due to the influence of the monsoon, rainfall is especially heavy in summer, and more than 70% of the annual total occurs from June to September.

Head of the statue

Construction was started in 713, led by a Chinese monk named Haitong. He hoped that the Buddha would calm the turbulent waters that plagued the shipping vessels traveling down the river. When funding for the project was threatened, he is said to have gouged out his own eyes to show his piety and sincerity. After his death, however, the construction was stuck due to insufficient funding. About 70 years later, a jiedushi decided to sponsor the project and the construction was completed by Haitong's disciples in 803.

Apparently the massive construction resulted in so much stone being removed from the cliff face and deposited into the river below that the currents were indeed altered by the statue, making the waters safe for passing ships.

[edit]Degradation

The Leshan Buddha has been affected by the pollution emanating from the unbridled development in the region. According to Xinhua news agency, the Leshan Giant Buddha and many Chinese natural and cultural heritage sites in the region have seen degradations from weathering, air pollution, and swarms of tourists. The government has promised to restore the site to its former condition.[3]

[edit]Dimensions

At 71 metres (233 feet) tall, the statue depicts a seated Maitreya Buddha with his hands resting on his knees. His shoulders are 28 metres wide and his smallest toenail is large enough to easily accommodate a seated person. There is a local saying: "The mountain is a Buddha and the Buddha is a mountain". This is partially because the mountain range in which the Leshan Giant Buddha is located is thought to be shaped like a slumbering Buddha when seen from the river, with the Leshan Giant Buddha as its heart.

Ambala: 12 October 2014-

National BJP Leader from Punjab Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal today launched a veiled attack on NDA ally Shiromani Akali Dal for tying up with Indian National Lok Dal in Haryana to fight against BJP candidates. Talking with the media at Ambala he stated that “Our allies partner, Hathi Ke Dant khane ke aur. Dekhane ke aur", what is there in Haryana of Punjab Shiromani Akali Dal. There National President, National Vice President, National Secretary i.e. Akali Dal "National" word ends only after Rajpura. It's a regional party. Grewal has come support of Assem Goyal here today. Grewal said that Sukhbir Singh Badal now controled 100% of the Cable TV Networks. He said that in our constitution there is “Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression" enshrined in Article 19(1)(a) of Constitution of India and termed Freedom of Press, "a Treasured Privilege”. Grewal stated that Sukhbir Singh Badal have imposed an undeclared Emergency similar to an Internal Emergency declared by Indira Gandhi in 1975. Grewal stated that the modus operandi of Sukhbir Badal is similar to Indira Gandhi, Late Congress tyrant, who suppressed thought process of the editors through her 3 point programme: allocation of Government advertising; shotgun merger of News agencies; and use of fear arousal techniques on Newspaper Publishers, Journalists and Individual Shareholders. Grewal added that Sukhbir Badal is one step ahead of late Shmt. Indira Gandhi. Grewal said Shiromani Akali Dal support a person who claims that he will take oath from jail, how can they (Akalis) support convicts who have been jailed,” Grewal also said that in an apparent reference to the SAD fighting October 15 Haryana assembly polls in alliance with the INLD. INLD President and former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, who is out on bail on health grounds in a teachers recruitment scam case, had a fortnight back said he would take oath as the next Chief Minister from Tihar jail. It's well known that Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has campaigned for INLD in Haryana and even shared stage with O P Chautala in Jind on September 25. SAD President and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal also began a hectic poll campaign from Sirsa today to seek votes for the INLD-SAD candidates. BJP, an erstwhile ally of the INLD, is for the first time in Haryana’s history contesting on all the 90 assembly seats on its own. Grewal said that we always respect our elders, but not those like our allies who are campaigning for corrupt and jailed politicians, he said in an apparent reference to Badal Sahib, who has campaigned for INLD in Haryana ahead of the polls. Grewal also targeted Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, claiming that he has taken the state backward and mocked at his claims of making "Haryana No 1"in terms of development. Grewal said that it is clear that seeking votes for BJP to strengthen the hands of the our Hon'ble Prime Minister, who is shineing like "Druv Tara's Light", he said Narendra Modi is the answer to take the country forward in future.
