Brown with black flecks, those on body and tail forming leopard-like spots. The largest moray.
Inhabits lagoon and seaward reefs, 1 to 46m. Common. Feeds primarily on fishes, occasionally on crustaceans. Normally docile and occasionally 'tamed' by dive guides, but has been implicated in unprovoked attacks and caused severe injury. Often ciguatoxic.
Ranges from Red Sea to Marquesas and Pitcairn, n. to Ryukyus and Hawaiian Is., s. to S. Africa; absent from Arabian Gulf and Oman.
Banded Broadbill
The banded broadbill (Eurylaimus javanicus) is a species of bird in the Eurylaimidae family. It is found in Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. It is a large broadbill (21.5–23 cm), with purple, yellow and black plumage. It eats predominantly insects, including grasshoppers, crickets, katydids, various beetles, caterpillars and larvae.

The Lesser Adjutant, Leptoptilos javanicus, is a large wading bird in the stork family Ciconiidae. It is a widespread species which is resident breeder in southern Asia from India east to southern China and Java.
This is a huge bird, typically 110–120 cm (43–48 in) tall, weighing about 5 kg (11 lbs) and has a 210 cm (83 in) wingspan. It is, however, the smallest member of the Leptoptilos genus. Its upper body and wings are black, but the belly and undertail are white. The head and neck are bare like those of a vulture. The pale bill is long and thick. The largest moray by body mass; they can reach a length of 10 feet. Hunts by night and primarily eats fish, and sometimes crustaceans. Usually not aggressive towards people if unmolested. Sometimes hunts cooperatively with some groupers; the groupers catch the fish fleeing up from the moray, and the moray catches fish seeking shelter from the groupers.
