For the January "city dog or country dog" challenge. Though I don't really think of the outskirts of Durango to be "country," we do live on enough acreage for Sibley to have good off-leash walks in the woods every day.

My daughter has taken up learning the flute recently. I am looking forward to hearing no.67 at some point. Congrats to my lovely son who has just passed his Grade 3 practical cornet examination - his first exam after only 15 months of learning! Go Lewis!

Funny how things work out...... I didnt have much faith in my last upload, but you thought different and got me into Explore! Thanks everyone :)

While going through my archives looking for something for the "Ohio Foothills" challenge theme "Mellow Yellow" I came across this image of kayaks at Pike Lake State Park.

"Short" being the amount of time & effort I put into this one!

It appears my efforts to get into Explore yesterday were unsuccessful - my little run is now over it seems, and I will have to wait another 8 weeks (ish) for it to come around again :( But thank you everyone for your lovely comments and faves so far - you keep me going! Onwards & upwards......

Explore - #79 - Jan 6, 2009

Apologies to those of you who are embarking on a January diet! - its only day 3 and I have had to resort to more food...... the reason being that once the kids go back to school tomorrow, there will be no more yummy, leisurely breakfasts with time to photograph. And also I think there is an element of panic creeping in! I feel the need to get a photo taken asap in case I don't come up with anything later. Who knows what's gonna happen when its back to school/back to work and it's dark by the time I get home!

Thank you to those of you who have taken the time to comment and encourage me on my little challenge...... you're the best!

Create random dots with a paint spatter and join up what you see in them.

I didn't have time to start up with paints for the random dot creation for this quickie creative challenge, so used a photo I took at Holland House today as a plan B: this fabulous little flying creature seemed to want to escape its stony prison... Just wish I could draw better!

The drawing was done on a print of the photo, not the flagstone, in case you wondered!

Day 2/365 of the 2009 Challenge. The theme is "Pens".

Day 2/31 of the January Challenge.

Day 22 -

Spiderman, Spiderman,

Does whatever a spider can

Spins a web, any size,

Catches thieves just like flies

Look Out!

Here comes the Spiderman.

I just love the imagination of a child. I love their ability to create characters and the different voices they use. Kodi does a really good pirate voice, but today he was Spiderman.

(R2NJ/PA) January: "Inside"

So, today we got our new baby. A little boy, 7 weeks old - and too adorable!!

We haven't named him as yet - suggestions welcome ;)

The girls are totally in love - and cried from happiness when we got him - awww!

This self-portrait, whilst playing my ukulele, serves two purposes. The 2009 Challenge, music topic. The January Challenge, self-portrait project.

I love this sweet uke, but I'm not too good with it. I have new tuning machines and strings that I've been meaning to put on it, hopefully that will motivate me to get better.

I'd love to be able to follow along with a worship band, at church. I think it could add a nice touch. Don't you?

Day 23 – Someone suggested that I take a self portrait for today’s photo. I don’t know about you but I get a little freaked out about having my photo taken at times. I can be very self critical and sometimes take a heap of photos just to pick only one that is worthy of anybody seeing. I have come to realise though, that I need to have photos taken to provide memories for my family to look back upon in the future. They won’t see my freckles, my white legs or my wonky smile. They will just see me, their wife/mum/daughter/sister/auntie. Even this photo has it's imperfections but I'm sure they won't see that either.

Rather than me take my own photo, I got hubby to take this shot of me with my boys when we went to Hatcher’s Manor to pick apricots.

1. Steyning Camera Club Flickr Challenge January 2014

Our quite this month is from Edward Weston:

“Anything that excites me for any reason I will photograph; not searching for unusual subject matter, but making the commonplace unusual.” January

Make an image of a familiar object/thing from an unusual angle or in an abstract way.

This self-portrait was a lot of fun to make. I took it with my Sigma 70-300 macro, on a tripod, with my Vivitar 285hv off camera. I held the flash in my right hand, out in front of me. It was hitting me strong from my right, and bouncing off the white wall immediately on my left. This helped get some decent light from the left, even though it was highly diffused.

Then, into Photoshop we went. Grayscale to Duotone. Then, I brought in my actual eye and helped it pop a bit. Then I smoothed my skin a bit, keeping the eye and eyebrow sharp.

I'm kinda liking it.

Day 26 – Happy Australia Day! Before I took this photo I asked Jakeb to stand tall and think about how proud he is to be Australian.

I asked it what it was that made him proud to be Australian. He thought for a while and then told me it was the friendly people. For me, it is an extension of that. I am really proud to live in a country that has such a strong spirit and who band together in times of need to help each other out.

We had such a lovely day today. We spent the morning at the beach where the boys had a swim and we checked out the sandcastle sculptures. Afterwards we headed down to the wharf for fish and chips and ice cream.

The January challenge for one of the groups I am in was to pick a nearby town we know nothing or little about, and explore, finding several key things to photograph! Come along with me in this challenge as I explore Anderson Alabama! It is near us; we have passed through it from time to time exploring other areas, but I had not ever stopped to see what was around there!

The town is situated along Anderson Creek, which empties into the Elk River near the Lauderdale-Limestone county border. Both the town and creek were named for Samuel Anderson, who built a gristmill along the creek in the early 19th century. The town was first settled around 1825 and was named Andersons Creek. The name was shortened to Anderson, and a post office was established in 1860. Anderson incorporated as a town in 1973. It is part of the Florence - Muscle Shoals Metropolitan Statistical Area known as "The Shoals". As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 354- kind of dated info but maybe hasn't changed a lot. :)

LARGE

This is a self portrait, whilst I was at a local shooting range. I'm shooting my new Savage Arms, .30-06. This was the first time I was able to shoot it. What fun it is!

I ran this through one of the Pioneer Woman's Actions. Can't remember which one right now. I like how the color is off, and it's a bit too contrasty.

Photosynthesis: The chemical process by which chlorophyll containing plants (or algae) use light to convert carbon dioxide and water to carbohydrates (sugar/food), releasing oxygen as a byproduct.

The January 2009 challenge for the Mad Scientists of Etsy (msoe) street team is "photosynthesis." Here is my entry, this skinny scarf knit in the oozing colors of green swamp slime, of which I am extremely partial, being a marine biologist by training and algal lover beyond comparison.

This incredibly lightweight skinny scarf is knit with soft loosely spun wool that changes colors randomly through the green spectrum. The yarn is a wool and acrylic blend, which makes it warm and soft yet light as a feather.

Double denim is a fashion crime, so this must be an atrocity!

Just my attempt at a "J" topic for the January Challenge.

Day 25/31 of the January Challenge.

Shot with a lens from a Holga which I have adapted to fit on my Canon XTi.

Day 1 of 365. Incorporating a January challenge with subjects for each day. Today is "You"... so this is "Me". The blogger foot shot. A classic. ;)

January Challenge, third view from Kingston Bridge, 9 more to come! Water is calmer this month and the sun is higher. Too cold for boats except for the two brave fishermen
