This is Jack's senior year of high school and it is time for senior pictures. Donna and I did Emma's a couple of years back. While I am still pretty proud of what we were able to do with Emma's pictures, I am hoping that a few extra years of photography experience will make a difference with Jack's shots. The challenge will be with our son... Jack absolutely HATES to have his picture taken. I always get self conscious of the lack of Jack pictures on my flickr stream but the kid just plain disappears or makes ridiculous faces when a camera is pointed his way!
These are actually two shots that Donna captured late this morning. Jack got out of school early and he gave Donna a total of 10 minutes at the park blocks from our home. I think this will be how it goes with him---short outings with the camera set on rapid fire!
Jack Black is a locally made beer in Cape Town. It recently won the as the best beer in a recent blind taste test in celebration of Reinheidsgebot Day at Mallix's place.
nope we didn't seat him like that, he did it and sat there for about half a hour cleaning himself having a grand time.
Just a little fun we had last weekend out on the beach. A small group of us got together with this wonderful couple Mike who plays Jack and his wife Pam, They both work with the Sunshine foundation helping with raising money or bringing a gift out to a kid, they also come out to see and read a book series called Pirate Pete to the kids among many other things. I just like to give a big kudos to them both!!
Thanks for working with us, we all had a blast! Also a big thanks to Cal, Darlene's hubby for watching our stuff while we moved around the beach. I'd like to thanks Les and Darlene for the help in this shoot,it was a bit of work on everyone's part!

First time visitors to Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge are often shocked to find active oil and natural gas extraction taking place on a wildlife refuge. A person or organization that owns a piece of property may not own the valuable commodities below the surface if rights to these were not secured at the time of purchase. These mineral rights may in fact belong to a family or other entity that has not been on the land for over a hundred years. Rights to a proven oil field are not likely to be yielded.

Hagerman NWR recently celebrated its 70th anniversary and to my knowledge has never experienced a major oil spill that threatened wildlife though there have been some minor leaks that were detected early and corrected.
Hagerman hosts thousands of migratory waterfowl and songbirds each year as well as threatened or endangered nesters like Bald Eagle and Interior Least Tern and visitors like Peregrine Falcon, Whooping Crane, Piping Plover and Interior Snowy Plover.
On the plus side the raised pads and roads that connect the oil wells allow visiting birders, photographers and fishermen access far out into Lake Texoma and creates additional habitat for wildlife. KN

I haven't had that much practice with silhouettes, let alone at night. So this was definitely a learning experience. I wanted to capture a dark figure only slightly outlined by light, but it was difficult to also capture the street lamp in the picture at the same time.
After toying around with composition, two external lights and a little blue tint, I was finally apple to get to a happy place. That is, a happy place far, far away from Jack the Ripper.
The pump jack benith an old decaying windmill... a farm, rumor has it, was swept away by a flood decades ago... eerily, only ruins surround us now....
My companion playfully works it's hard, metal arm... and to our great delight, water cometh, from old wells of washed away worlds.

A commission custom paw - my third one to date and probably my favorite toy to customize. It's been pretty freezing here in the UK which is what inspired me to create this Jack Frost type character. I imagine he was frozen mid-strike on one of his enemies, hopefully they'll have got to a safe distance before he thaws out..
