Jack Rudy is an American tattoo artist notable for his reinvention of the 'Black and Gray' style of tattooing, realistic portraits, and single-needle use. He is considered to be one of the top tattoo artists in the world.

After leaving the Marines in 1975, Rudy began his career as an apprentice at Goodtime Charlie’s Tattooland, in East Los Angeles. Under the watch of Charlie Cartwright, a friend of his he had met while visiting the Old Long Beach pike while on leave from the USMC Logistics Base in Barstow CA, Rudy and Cartwright began to hone their craft of single-needle, Black and Gray style tattoos. Simultaneously creating a whole new sub genre of modern tattooing and raising the proverbial bar for many new emerging tattoo artists and artists in general. His very distinct and distinguishable style is renowned for its masterful use of light and dark shades of varying degrees of black and grey. In addition to creating a softer and more realistic style of tattooing, with the advent of the new single needle tattoo technology artists were now able to use a much greater level of detail than previously attainable utilizing older and more readily accepted tattoo machine and needle configurations. As the client base of East Los Angeles began requesting this 'penitentiary-style', the pair decided to create a single-needle configured tattoo machine.

Rudy is currently the president of the Beatnik's Car Club - a car club which requires the members to own 50s-styled hot rods and 'lots of tattoos'. He is the owner of Tattooland, an 'old school' street shop, located in Anaheim, California.

The oldest material on Earth which has yet been dated by man is a zircon mineral of 4,404 million years old from a sedimentary gneiss in the Jack Hills of the Narre Gneiss Terrane of Australia. It is the most ancient fragment of the earth's crust so far identified, formed approximately 150 million years after the planet itself. In August of 2007, scientists reported finding the world's oldest diamond crystals, encased inside the zircon crystals. The image was acquired October 12, 2004, covers an area of 26.6 x 34.2 km, and is located near 26.2 degrees south latitude, 117.1 degrees east longitude.

Vintage and charming Mother Goose illustration of Jack and Jill.

From The Old Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme Book. Published by Thomas Nelson and Sons. I couldn't locate a publication date. However, the book did have an inscription dated '1927'.

These are wonderful illustrations by Anne Anderson.

I recently purchased several vintage/antique children's books from a Freeport, Illinois estate. An old brown hardcover copy of The Old Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme Book was among them. Unfortunately, the book was beyond repair. However, the beautiful prints were still in good condition.

You will receive both prints pictured above. Wouldn't these look great framed/matted side-by-side in a child's room? Book pages measure 9 3/16" x 11 1/2". Actual illustration is 7" x 10".

Shows light edge wear, along with light soiling due to age.

Beautiful vintage Mother Goose illustration with amazing detail!

It's Jack!

I'm so sorry I haven't been on Flickr lately. I've been so busy with a journalism course I'm taking, horse clinics, and work that I haven't had time to upload or comment on anything. But I have been taking lots of pictures of Jack so when I get more time I'll upload some more.

Jack has been doing great! The weather has been so nice for November in Ontario so he's been getting outside to play with Bear almost everyday. He loves the crinkling leaves.

Jack is about 7 months now, and he's going to get fixed on Thursday. They grow up so fast, don't they? =)

I saw this in Roman Road, E3, London.

Jacked potatoes? Were they stolen? Or served on a spring-loaded tray? Beware, the potato jackers...

The 15th anniversary of formation of the White Stripes on 7/15. Inspiration for this oil painting comes from an old photo of a young Jack sitting with his guitar.

If you were lucky enough to see Jack in "It Might Get Loud", the documentary movie, you will remember the scene where he was playing and his fingers were bleeding, smearing across his pick guard.

Tech details: 20x25" oil and acrylic painting on board some mixed media added. The green light trails are done in Photoshop (at present) but I will be adding these on the painting in traditional oils shortly.

Jack J. Clark aka J.J. Clark (1879–1947) was an American director and actor of the early motion picture industry. Clark was born on September 23, 1879, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During the silent film era, he was persuaded to enter motion pictures in 1907 by Sidney Olcott of the New York-based Kalem Studios . Clark traveled through 24 countries with the film company becoming one of the first American film stars to film on foreign location. While in the Holy Land, Kalem Studios produced the first American passion play, From the Manger to the Cross, casting Jack Clark as John the Apostle. Clark and co-star Gene Gauntier were married during the filming, in 1912. They divorced in 1918. Wikipedia states Clark acted in more than 200 films (IMDB keeps it at 80), including The Colleen Bawn (1911), From the Manger to the Cross (1912) The Shaughraun (1912), The Last of the Mafia (1915), A Fool's Paradise (1916), Audrey (1916), Pajamas (1927), Love and Learn (1928), and Broadway Howdy (1929). Among the 12 films he directed or produced in 1914-1915 were The Yankee Girl (1915) and The Mad Maid of the Forest (1915). Clark stopped his main film career in 1917, but between 1927 and 1942 he would still play 12 mostly uncredited parts, his last part being the Man Singing at Inquirer Party in Orson Welles' Citizen Kane (1942). Jack Clark died on April 12, 1947 in Hollywood, California.
