It's getting dark and the Jacaranda is even more beautiful...I was standing and waiting... until the wind stopped. Then, we met in Princes Gardens

Growing to a height of no more than 8 metres, the Jacaranda tree produces a mass of blue, trumpet-shaped flowers in large terminal panicles in late spring/early summer.

It originates from Brazil and is often found in parks and towns in Mediterranean countries.

This row of stunning Jacaranda trees in full bloom at Boonah.

Not, to my surprise, native to Australia. The bright purple flowers of the jacaranda tree are usually the first harbinger of spring in Sydney.

October means the Jacarandas come out on our street

The Jacaranda was a 2000-ton Greek-owned coaster, which ran aground on the night of September the 18th, 1971. She was not laden with any cargo and her engines failed as she negotiated the windy seas. She ran aground on the beach, about an hour's walk north of Qolora Mouth and the captain, his wife and 14 crew members abandoned ship using a rope ladder which they strung from the ships prow to the nearby rocks. Successive storms have taken their toll on the stranded ship and today only the bow remains.

The wreck is an hour-long walk north along the beach from Qolora.

Jacaranda mimosifolia

Jacarandas have become my favorite trees (besides acacia) since I've come to Kenya. This is a "lake" made of the flowers of a Jacaranda by the head gardener at the UN complex here. When the flowers fall, they form a beautiful blanket of purple on the typically red soil. Hard to beat that.

I made this bowl as a wedding present for my nephew. It is about 14 inches in diameter and 4 inches tall. The wood is Spalted Jacaranda.

Known as the Jacaranda City for all the purple blossom-bedecked trees which line its thoroughfares. We were lucky enough to be there when all the trees were in bloom! It was really pretty and the air was filled with a beautiful fragrance!

Jacaranda seed pod on a bamboo wood background. A very quick one today as I literally had to RUSH of to the camera store. And lo and behold I am now the proud parent of a gorgeous little cutie! 230 grams 50mm f/1.4 the delivery was quick and painfree ( except for my purse) I haven't had a chance to play with her yet, will have to wait until tomorrow. I can't wait!!...lol So this shot is taken with my 18-200mm

Diana Instant Square with 75mm normal lens.

PSA: So many people say "Oh look how beautiful the Jacaranda are" but I want to tell you how big a pain in the ass these trees are. The flowers fall all over the place. They stick to your car. The leaves fall with little twigs that have to be raked up. And they drop this black dust that makes a mess. But, they are beautiful, when they're blooming.

A dry fruit of Jacaranda.

Just because in the various alphabet games I'm always without a J... :-)

Made with the SMC Pentax-M 50/1.7 and a 13 mm extension tube.

Found these jacaranda trees on an otherwise horrible rainy day, they lightened the mood a little.
