In October 2015, Holly & The Sacred Flame unveiled “Plague” at their Oddities performance. It was one of the most powerful, unnerving and artistic performances I have ever seen. Created from the ground up and brought to life in all its dramatic darkness. It wasn’t just the costumes that were spectacular but the very movements of the dance seemed to inspire fear and awe, beauty and the macabre. A few people didn’t understand but you didn’t have too, its art and sometimes not understanding art can be a good thing too. I was one of the few who got sneak peaks before the performance and I knew it would be pure gold followed by “I need to do this as a shoot in the backdrop of the forest”. Before I even saw one move I knew this was something we needed to explore further. It’s quite difficult to ask them to stop mid performance with questions like “hey, can you just hold that pose right there” lol or “Oooo oh…look at me lol.. Don’t think they would have appreciated it lol. Originally rescheduled due to weather, I’ve had these ideas roaming around in my head since October. In 2012 we all came together as a creative partnership intent on making beautiful things with beautiful people. We have become so much more. Sisters and soul mates, artists and muses, friends and companions all with the same wonderful visions of maybe just making the world brighter, making people think or feel something, anything. You wouldn’t believe how hard that is in this day with the constant assault of online media. Life is hard, but achieving happiness shouldn’t be hard if you surround yourself with the right people. I don’t know what I did to be blessed with so many loving and supportive sisters but I love them so very much….In love and art, we ascend, we bloom and we live forever in the warm embrace of each other.

Oddities 2016 is coming in October! If you missed the last one you probably shouldn’t miss this one, jus sayin.

This building, whilst also art deco in style is rather more dramatic in appearance than its parent building, and illustrates the extent to which modern architecture had changed in such a short time. The main facory building has strong Egyptian overtones, but the canteen could easily have passed for a cinema, with its dramatic expanse of glazing that in some places wrapped round 180 degrees and its low central tower.

The beautiful and now tranquil setting of Augustinian Lanercost Priory belies an often troubled history. Standing close to Hadrian's Wall, it suffered frequent attacks during the long Anglo-Scottish wars, once by Robert Bruce in person. The mortally sick King Edward I rested here for five months in 1306-7, shortly before his death on his final campaign.

The east end of the 13th-century church survives to its full height, housing within its dramatic triple tier of arches some fine monuments.

Lake Como, in Northern Italy’s Lombardy region, is an upscale resort area known for its dramatic scenery, set against the foothills of the Alps. The lake is shaped like an upside-down Y, with three slender branches that meet at the resort town of Bellagio. At the bottom of the southwest branch lies the city of Como, home to Renaissance architecture and a funicular that travels up to the mountain town of Brunate.

Full Moon in March - IMG_0297

1. The desire to photograph the full moon is a feeling that I hope will never fade. This was my first attempt at such. This was taken on March 20th, so it is a couple of days after the ‘true full moon’ but none the less…totally cool! I tried several different locations and many, many frames later; this was one of the better shots. It has such a golden glow that placing it behind the branches of the tree to create a silhouette seemed natural. The choice to position the subject in the upper corner plays into the rule of thirds and lend to the asymmetry of scene. The vast expanse of negative black space to the left doesn’t feel off balance because of the slightly imposing dominance of the moon.

2. The value of the overall photograph is dramatic. The branches of the tree create texture adding to the depth of field. The glow around the moon and the crisp edges of the branches produce a striking depth of field.

3. Light to illuminate the subject was self-contained and all natural. I was concerned that the street light just to the right of the tree might be an issue but it had little or no effect. The light from the moon produced a warm feeling to the expanse of the dark sky. The branches formed hard lines against the soft glow of the moon.

4. Since this was my first attempt at photographing the moon, I was pretty much ‘winging it’. I think the focus is a little fuzzy in spots but the effect is visually pleasing. The sharp outlines from the branch shadows help. Shutter speed was set at 1/100th, aperture at f5.0, focal length was 69.2mm with an ISO of 400. Metered evaluation set at +4/3 on center weight mode. White balance was on cloudy and no editing tools were used. This is straight from the camera!

5. Capturing the moment…seems to be a theme in my photographs. I enjoyed trying this. It left me with an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment, a sense of pride in knowledge of my camera settings, the ability to figure out how to capture this particular image. I am very happy with this portrait of the moon.

6. This is only one of the images that I was able to share with the class. I chose this one for its dramatic effect. I have more images of closer, unobstructed views of the moon that reflect the ability of my learning as well as my cameras’ technological ability.

Lincoln, New Mexico was founded circa 1854 by a band of Hispano farmers from the Rio Grande valley who were enabled by increased U.S. military protection against Apache raids to exploit the fertile land of the Rio Bonito valley. Known, as La Placita del Rio Bonito (the little town by the beautiful river).

The story of Lincoln, New Mexico, duplicates that of most of the cow towns that sprang up on the advancing cattlemen's frontier in the years following the Civil War. Like its counterparts throughout the West, it was a business and social community serving surrounding ranges. To it drifted cowboys, badmen, gunfighters, rustlers, soldiers, and famous lawmen. It was a scene of courtroom battles, public executions, and gunfights. As in other parts of the cattle country, conflict over water, government beef contracts, and grazing rights engendered bad feeling. At Lincoln one of the famous feuds for which the cattle frontier is noted reached its dramatic climax.

The Luna house is L-shaped, with a sheet metal peaked roof over an earlier flat roof. On the northeast comer of the house is a room of Jacal construction which may date from the earliest period of Lincoln's history. (pg 11) (1)

Boats ply the Colorado River in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area near Horseshoe Bend. The 1,450-mile-long Colorado River is one of the principal rivers in the Southwestern United States. The name Colorado derives from Spanish for "colored reddish" due to its heavy silt load. Known for its dramatic canyons, whitewater rapids, and eleven National Parks, the Colorado River and its tributaries are a vital source of water for 40 million people. Intensive water consumption has dried up the lower 100 miles of the river, which has rarely reached the sea since the 1960s. Native Americans have inhabited the Colorado River basin for at least 8,000 years. Starting around 1 AD, large agriculture-based societies were established, but a combination of drought and poor land use practices led to their collapse in the 1300s. Their descendants include tribes such as the Puebloans, while others including the Navajo settled in the Colorado Basin after the 1000s. In the 1500s, Spanish explorers began mapping and claiming the watershed, which became part of Mexico upon its independence in 1821. Even after most of the watershed became U.S. territory in 1846, much of the river's course remained unknown. Several expeditions charted the Colorado in the mid-19th century—one of which, led by John Wesley Powell, was the first to run the rapids of the Grand Canyon. Large-scale settlement of the lower basin began in the mid- to late-1800s, with steamboats sailing from the Gulf of California to landings along the river that linked to wagon roads to the interior. If you have never tried these bulbs, take a look and see what an exciting spring like flower can enhance the fall garden. The large clusters of leaves appear early in the season and then fade away. All summer there is no trace of these plants until, suddenly, in late September, they burst into bloom with a variety of flowers that resemble their Spring counterparts.

This particular plant was growing on the property and Beth DeFries, the garden's benefactor, who lived here for fifty years says she selected this one from seedlings for its dramatic, double blooms. They are not quite like the ones sold as "waterlilies" but similar.

There are also numerous varieties that are less full and more closely resemble spring crocus,. They range from white to pink to lavender.

The Amalfi coast is an area of great physical beauty and natural diversity. It has been intensively settled by human communities since the early Middle Ages. There are a number of towns such as Amalfi and Ravello with architectural and artistic works of great significance. The rural areas show the versatility of the inhabitants in adapting their use of the land to the diverse nature of the terrain, which ranges from terraced vineyards and orchards on the lower slopes to wide upland pastures.

Justification for Inscription

The Committee of UNESCO decided IN 1997 to inscribe this site on the basis of criteria (ii), (iv) and (v), considering that the Costiera Amalfitana is an outstanding example of a Mediterranean landscape, with exceptional cultural and natural scenic values resulting from its dramatic topography and historical evolution.

I took this on the famous Manila Yacht Club in Manila Bay Harbour, Philippines. Yachts are a symbol of affluence and more-than-enough wealth. Manila Bay is also famous for its dramatic sunsets and I’m a bit lucky enough to steal a shot of this fantastic view albeit the cloudy backdrop.

Yeah, I visited a few cemeteries in NY during my November 19 - 21, 2010 trip to visit Flickr animal rescue peeps.

Calvary — or more specifically First Calvary, the part south of the Long Island Expressway and west of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway — is best admired for its dramatic setting: tucked in among highways, residential neighborhoods, industrial buildings and Newtown Creek, with views of Manhattan rising as a backdrop.

White Sands National Monument is in the northern Chihuahuan Desert in the U.S. state of New Mexico. It's known for its dramatic landscape of rare white gypsum sand dunes. In October 2015, Holly & The Sacred Flame unveiled “Plague” at their Oddities performance. It was one of the most powerful, unnerving and artistic performances I have ever seen. Created from the ground up and brought to life in all its dramatic darkness. It wasn’t just the costumes that were spectacular but the very movements of the dance seemed to inspire fear and awe, beauty and the macabre. A few people didn’t understand but you didn’t have too, its art and sometimes not understanding art can be a good thing too. I was one of the few who got sneak peaks before the performance and I knew it would be pure gold followed by “I need to do this as a shoot in the backdrop of the forest”. Before I even saw one move I knew this was something we needed to explore further. It’s quite difficult to ask them to stop mid performance with questions like “hey, can you just hold that pose right there” lol or “Oooo oh…look at me lol.. Don’t think they would have appreciated it lol. Originally rescheduled due to weather, I’ve had these ideas roaming around in my head since October. In 2012 we all came together as a creative partnership intent on making beautiful things with beautiful people. We have become so much more. Sisters and soul mates, artists and muses, friends and companions all with the same wonderful visions of maybe just making the world brighter, making people think or feel something, anything. You wouldn’t believe how hard that is in this day with the constant assault of online media. Life is hard, but achieving happiness shouldn’t be hard if you surround yourself with the right people. I don’t know what I did to be blessed with so many loving and supportive sisters but I love them so very much….In love and art, we ascend, we bloom and we live forever in the warm embrace of each other.

Oddities 2016 is coming in October! If you missed the last one you probably shouldn’t miss this one, jus sayin.

The mortally sick King Edward I rested here for five months in 1306-7, shortly before his death on his final campaign.

Podere al Salcio is an 18th century stone and brick country house originally built in the local tradition as a farming building, with animals in the low building on the left, haystack, granary and deposit on the ground floor of the main house. The first floor used to hosts the farmers' families.

It enjoys the most stunning views 360° degrees round, changing in colour throughout the day and seasons. Val d'Orcia is a Unesco World Heritage region for its dramatic beauty and untouched landscapes.

The Amalfi Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in southern Italy’s Campania region, is renowned for its dramatic cliffs, colorful seaside villages, and Mediterranean charm. Stretching along the Sorrentine Peninsula, it includes iconic destinations such as Sorrento, Positano, and Amalfi town.

Sorrento, perched above the Bay of Naples, offers sweeping views of Mount Vesuvius and serves as a gateway to the coast. Positano is famed for its pastel-hued houses cascading down steep hillsides to pebble beaches and turquoise waters. Amalfi, once a powerful maritime republic, is known for its historic cathedral, lively piazza, and lemon-based delicacies like limoncello.

The region’s narrow, winding roads and scenic boat routes connect these destinations, making the Amalfi Coast one of the world’s most picturesque coastal journeys.

One of the later additions to the Hoover complex - the canteen building to the west of the main plant. This building, whilst also art deco in style is rather more dramatic in appearance than its parent building, and illustrates the extent to which modern architecture had changed in such a short time. The main facory building has strong Egyptian overtones, but the canteen could easily have passed for a cinema, with its dramatic expanse of glazing that in some places wrapped round 180 degrees and its low central tower.
