A handy bicycle parked at an Irish pub in my family home town, Co.Offaly.

'.....I walked straight up to the door and looked in.

I saw, standing with his back to me, an enormous policeman.......He was standing behind a little counter in a neat whitewashed day-room; his mouth was open and he was looking in a mirror which hung upon the wall....."It's my teeth",

I heard him say ,abstractedly and half-aloud....He came over ponderously to the inside of the counter and I advanced meekly from the door until we were face to face.

"Is it about a bicycle?", he asked.

I've posted a shot of just Claddagh's and the movies by themselves, I figured I should post the one of both of them together! They complement each other nicely, the pub being warm tones and the movie theatre being bright neon!

Enjoy your weeks!

The Music Café is a cosy, independent coffee shop located on the edge of the busy Temple Bar district, on Wellington Quay.

Concept: Unlike the traditional pubs in the area, this venue focuses on a quiet, quality coffee experience with a strong emphasis on the musical ambience.

Atmosphere: The café is known for its warm, relaxed, and jazzy atmosphere. You can often find great music playing, making it an ideal spot for winding down, reading, or having a quiet conversation.

Offerings: They serve a variety of coffees and teas, with dairy alternatives available. While not exclusively vegan, they typically offer at least one vegan pastry option daily and feature items like avocado toast.

Location: Its location near the River Liffey makes it easily accessible, offering a peaceful retreat from the noise and frantic activity of the surrounding Temple Bar pubs.

The National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology is the central repository for Ireland's archaeological artefacts, located on Kildare Street, Dublin. The building itself is a landmark Victorian-Palladian structure featuring a magnificent rotunda and mosaic floors. The collections span over 7,000 years of Irish history, from the Mesolithic period to the Late Middle Ages. One of the most famous exhibits is the 'Treasury,' featuring iconic Celtic Christian metalwork. Priceless pieces like the Ardagh Chalice and the Tara Brooch are housed here. The museum also showcases one of the most significant collections of prehistoric gold in Europe. Another major highlight is the display of the well-preserved Iron Age 'bog bodies.' Additionally, there is an extensive section dedicated to Viking Age artefacts recovered from the Wood Quay excavations in Dublin. Admission is free.

Working in the office today so I decided I'd continue my 'what would tourists take a photo of' series.

In September we went to Caiscais and Lisbon for a break. Caiscais is a beautiful resort town on the outskirts of the great city. Easily accessed by public transport it has a charm all its own with lovely restaurants, pleasant walks and beautiful old building coupled with sea views to make for a perfect holiday destination. Just off the seafront is this small square with the town hall and these two buildings. The one on the right appears to be a church though it does not have too many religious symbols other than the two bells over the door. Beside is the "Residencial Parsi" with the ubiquitous "Irish Pub". When I saw the name O'Neill I gave an inward groan as Irish Pubs are for foreigners as far as I am concerned but the O'Neill is real. Jorge O'Neill, a descendant of the great Owen Roe O'Neill, a great man of Irish history had quite a bit of property here and left a lasting mark.

The Guinness Storehouse is Ireland's most popular tourist attraction and is considered the "Home of Guinness," located within the historic St. James's Gate Brewery in Dublin.

Building and Structure: The visitor center is housed in the brewery's former fermentation plant, a seven-story building dating back to 1904. Its stunning glass atrium is shaped like a giant pint of Guinness, which, if filled, would hold millions of pints.

The Experience: The interactive exhibition narrates the story of Guinness from its foundation in 1759 (when Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000-year lease) to the present day. The tour covers the four ingredients (water, barley, hops, and yeast), the brewing process, the history of its iconic advertising, and the art of pouring the "perfect pint."

The Highlight (Gravity Bar): The visit culminates at the Gravity Bar, located on the top floor. This bar offers breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views across the Dublin skyline, where visitors can enjoy the complimentary pint of Guinness included with their admission ticket.

Trinity College Dublin, founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I, is Ireland's oldest university and the intellectual and historical heart of the city.

Significance and Rankings: It is the sole constituent college of the University of Dublin and is consistently ranked as Ireland's top university. Throughout its history, it has been a centre of academic excellence, educating notable figures such as Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett, and Jonathan Swift.

Main Attraction (Book of Kells): Its most famous tourist attraction is the Trinity College Library, Ireland's largest research library. Within it, the magnificent "Long Room" houses Ireland's most cherished cultural treasure: the Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript of the four Gospels, created by Celtic monks around 800 AD.

Campus: The campus is located right in the centre of Dublin, characterised by its elegant Georgian architecture and expansive squares.

Grand Canal Dock is a Dublin docklands district that has undergone a spectacular urban transformation. Originally opened in 1796 as one of the world's largest docks, the area became derelict by the mid-20th century. Regeneration began in the late 1990s, converting the former industrial land into a thriving technological and residential hub. It is now famously nicknamed "Silicon Docks" due to the high concentration of European headquarters for tech giants like Google, Facebook, and LinkedIn. The area is noted for its modern architecture, including the striking Grand Canal Square designed by Martha Schwartz. It is also home to the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Ireland's largest fixed-seat theatre, designed by Daniel Libeskind. The district has become one of Dublin's most desirable and vibrant areas, blending history (such as the old Boland's Mill) with luxury apartments and modern offices.
