Vadaseri is a small agricultural village in Thanjavur District, the food grain and temple district of Tamil Nadu, India. Vadaseri is located about 35km, South-East of Thanjavur. Timmy, the station masters pet dog. Its surprising how the deeper you go into rural India, the more English the name of pets begin to sound. And in cities, it seems almost a trend to call it something after a TV cartoon.

A lot has been spoken and heard about Amritsar, the land of Golden Temple. It is one place near Delhi which has been on my Travel list for a long time. The 7:20 AM Swarna Shatabdi departing from New Delhi Railway Station arrives at Amritsar at 1:20 PM but occasionally gets delayed by an hour. In our case we reached at 2:20 PM due to the delay. The driver from Country Inn held a placard with my name and was easy to spot. Irctc had sent an SMS on my mobile number with the driver contact details just in case the need arrived. We boarded the Tempo Traveller and made our way through the traffic to the Country Inn Suites which is just five minutes away (1.5KM).

We gobbled our food purely because we didn’t want to miss the ceremony at 4:30 PM at the Wagah Border. The drive to Wagah Border is 45 minutes from the Hotel so it is important to leave by 3:30 PM otherwise, be prepared to find the gates closed. Many people miss the Wagah Border ceremony due to late arrival. Attari village is 2 KM before the border and one has to cover the last 1 KM on foot to see the glorious ceremony by soldiers from both sides, India and Pakistan.

After the ceremony we headed back to the Hotel. The Country Inn rooms are excellent, service is good.
Next morning, we went to the Jallianwala Bagh and Golden Temple. The drive from the Hotel is just 15 minutes. The Jallianwala Bagh and the Golden Temple are very near. I suggest you go to the temple first because of the importance it holds and there is a long queue for the visit as well. The Halwa (Prasad) is prepared in ghee and served at multiple places to the devotees. Buy a souvenir from outside the temple if you like and then head for the Jallianwala Bagh.

Jallianwala Bagh is just looked like another park at the first glance but the history of the massacre that occurred came back when we saw the bullet marks on the wall.
Our driver was very informative and shared the famous restaurants and places in Amritsar and we made a halt at the Punjabi Lassi which is the oldest shop. The Lassi is Rs.35 and full of cream and butter that the spoon stays on the glass and doesn’t sink. Once back to the Hotel, we checked out after lunch and headed to the Railway station, reaching Delhi at night 11 PM with sweet memories of the trip.
