It's not an iPad or even a Kindle, but my iPod touch makes a great portable reader. I have 40 books on there right now (in addition to the 600+ songs and 30+ apps) -- the books take up very little space in the Stanza reader app. I use it to read while I am in transit day to day but for a trip like this, it's worth its weight (or rather the weight of 40 books) in gold.
