My first real painting. I bought Brushes for the iPad last week, and I've been reading up on color theory and painting techniques (both traditional and digital) all weekend. I have zero fine arts training (except for a few photography classes) so this is all learn-by-doing.
The left is a pic I snagged from one of the tutorial websites I was reading. The right side is my rendering in Brushes. It took me 3-4 hours of work, all with a single hard-edged brush and a Pogo stylus.
The blending technique of using the picker and controlling opacity is painstaking but from all accounts most worthwhile to learn than relying on smudge/blend tools (which Brushes doesn't have anyways). I found it to be a very Zen experience. :)
I did "cheat" a little by making an initial sketch by tracing the image prior to blocking in the colors, and I selected my palette using the picker on the original image itself. I'm still trying to understand how to go about settling on a palette and values when starting out, but I hope that will come with more practice.
And yes, I'm still dong my Photo 365, but I'm still concentrating on film more than digital, so posting is coming in batches. I've got a roll almost done, so more to come soonish.

I finally found a picture of the type of doors I want to build for the laundry area online. I did not have a print out so I was showing it to Nicole and Joe on the iPad.
We've just had delivery of our Apple iPad. It's not as big as I thought it would be and not too heavy. Very shiny and lovely and strokable. Let's play...
