The Wired app for iPad is very impressive; it's smooth and responsive when flipping pages or jumping to arbitrary sections, and there's plenty of unobtrusive interactivity (like swiping left/right to progessively assemble or disassemble the Lego Lamborghini in this screenshot, an animated Mars missions graphic, audio clips, videos and even a spinning, animating Iron Man and War Machine).
They've also taken the time to properly support both portrait and landscape orientations natively; look at how the page elements have completely reflowed. It's a very high-quality production indeed, and shows both what the iPad is capable of and where magazines are hopefully headed in the future.
I still have no idea whether it will use in-app purchase for future issues, or whether you'll have to download a new standalone app for each issue. The current one is just called "Wired", with no issue-number or such. I do hope they support in-app purchase, to avoid cluttering the iPad's home screen.
I think I chose wisely with this one. Very nice. It's a little loose without a SmartCover...but I always use a SmartCover.

I like to think my great photo of the beach in Carinteria, CA together with Johnny's marketing skills (using Facebook) is what won this for us! I also got help from flickr friends and twitter and my kidney forum!
Thank you to everyone who voted and voted and voted!
I took this in my backyard on Saturday or Sunday late afternoon/early evening-- can't remember which. The glare off of the iPad is noticeable, but it isn't as bad as this picture suggests.
