Cannon Ionic Cinema, Golders Green. Opened (as the Ionic Cinema) in 1975 on the site of an earlier cinema, designed by George Coles & Co, the auditorium was in the basement below a supermarket. It became the ABC Ionic in 1997 but closed two years later. The foyer has been incorporated into the supermarket, but it is believed that the auditorium remains intact.

The Masonic letter G

Source: Masonic Vibes

by Paul Foster Case

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. St. John 1:1.

All in all that is all there is to the letter G. But I have found that if you make things to simple people tend to take them as unimportant.

I have not been able to determine when the letter G was introduced into Speculative Masonry as a symbol.

The letter G is not derived from the Operative Masons of the Middle Ages, and formed no part of the architectural decoration of old cathedrals.

Whether it entered the symbolism under the influence of those Rosicrucian’s and Qabalists who joined the Order during the last half of the 17th century, or whether it was introduced at some time subsequent to 1717, when the first Grand Lodge was established at the Apple-tree Tavern in London, is impossible to tell.

The letter G is the initial of Geometry. This makes it a symbolic summary of the entire Masonic system. The heart of Freemasonry is a doctrine founded on the science of geometry. In the old Masonic Constitutions it is specifically stated that Masonry and Geometry are one and the same.

It is no secret that the letter G is a symbol for the Deity. It so happens that God is the English name of the Grand Architect of the Universe. The fact that G is the first letter of God is not the only connection between the symbol and the Deity.

Its Greek equivalent is the initial of Gaia, the earth Mother, eldest born of Chases, whose name is the root of the noun geometria, geometry.

Gimel, the Hebrew correspondence to G, is the initial of gadol, majesty, and of gebur, strong, words used to designate the Deity throughout the Hebrew sacred writings. Gimel itself is regarded by the wise men of Israel as being the alphabetical sign of the sacred wisdom which is founded on the science of geometry.

So basically we are back to St. John 1:1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

When I was raised to a Master Mason, I was told to learn the following lesions:

The Pot Of Incense Symbolizes man, the pot being the physical body, the Incense being the mind of man, and when they are lit, the heat given off being the spirit of man as given to him by God.

The Beehive Symbolizes unity of purpose, with just one leader, for life and just one goal, the betterment of the hive.

The Anchor And Ark The Anchor is an emblem of Jesus Christ who gave his life to ensure us a safe harbor to find rest in. The Ark is an emblem of God, that divine ark that carries us through a lifetime of trials and tribulations, and finally to our Heavenly home.

The 47th Problem of Euclid Is commonly excepted to represent the physical body, the psyche, and the spiritual, and this figure being the complete man. Let us just suppose the 47th problem of Euclid represented the life spirit, the human spirit, and the divine spirit. The life spirit being Friendship, the human spirit being Morality, and the divine spirit being Brotherly Love. This figure could represent the perfect man.

The Hour Glass Is an emblem of human life. Like the hour glass, when the first grain of sand falls it is a fact that the last grain of sand will fall too. When man is born it is a fact that he will also die. The difference being that man has control over how he lives his life and the sand only falls down.

The Sword Reminds us that we should be ever watchful and guarded in our thoughts, words, and actions, because all of these will be recorded in the Great Book of Life, that all men are judged by when" they die.

The Scythe Is used as an emblem of Death but it is in reality an emblem of transition from one life to another. Because as this mortal life comes to an end it brings with it the beginning of a spiritual life.

When I went through York Rite Masonry, it was explained to me the meaning of all these lesions.

When I went through my reception into Scottish Rite Masonry, even more lesions were taught and explained to me.

When I was admitted to the Thirty-Third Degree, came the Surprise of my life. No more lesions, no more explanations, I was only told to remember a few simple facts and to do one thing, which changed my whole outlook on life.

1. Any man who fails, in his duties to God, fails mankind and himself.

2. While you live, you should work to secure for all people their rights and voice in its government.

3. You must labor to enlighten and teach mankind.

4. To teach the people their power and their rights.

5. To let the enemies of mankind be your enemies.

6. Come to no terms with them, but complete surrender of their ways.

7. That even though I been exalted to the Thirty-Third Degree, I would still be among my equals in every Blue Lodge and that all “worthy” Master Masons are my Brothers.

Now the one thing that changed my life was, I was informed that it was not enough to just know or just understand the lessons of Masonry, I had to live the lessons of Masonry.

Believing this I feel that I will be “A life time Apprentice” my whole life. When the time comes to return this physical body back to the ground from wince it came.

The sprit that lived in this body will be returned to God as a “Fellow Craft” and then at the feet of God the labors of my sprit will be judged by God.

Then and only then, if God finds the work of my sprit as “true work, good work”, will my sprit be raised from a dead level to a living perpendicular on the angle of a square by God.

In this belief, I will live my life as “A life time Apprentice”, always trying to subdue my passions and learning to improve myself.

The Masonic letter G reminds us that our every act is done in the sight of the Great Architect of the Universe.

"By letters four and science five, this “G” aright doth stand, in due Art and Proportion; you have your answer, friend.”

What are the "letters four"? It is believed that they stand for "YHWH", the name of the Great Architect of the Universe (pronounced "Yahway". (sometimes pronounced Jehovah) in the ancient Hebrew language, from which the Bible was translated:

Which is the 5th science? Geometry.

The Letter G stands for "Geometry", which is the mathematical science upon which Architecture and Masonry were founded.

When did the letter G become part of the Square and Compass? No one knows exactly, but it is believed to be somewhere between 1730 and 1768, here in the United States. The "G" is not used in the center of the square and compasses in all jurisdictions around the world.

Letter G

In Hebrew, the language our Bible was originally written in, it is called Gheemel (or Gimel) and has a numerical value of 3.

Throughout history, we see reference to the number 3 when we speak of the Supreme Architect of the Universe... no matter which language we speak!

Gimel (in slightly different forms) is the 3rd letter of many Semitic languages including Phoenician, Greek, Aramaic, Hebrew, and Syriac.

Phonecian: Gimel (11th century BCE)

Greek: Gamma (9th century BCE)

Aramaic: Gamal (800 BCE to 600 CE) (800 years Before Common Era

to 600 years after Common Era)

Hebrew: Gimel (3rd century BCE)

Syriac: Gomal / Gamal (2nd century BCE)

G Throughout the Centuries

B.C.E. means "Before Common Era". The Common Era (C.E.), also known as the Christian Era and sometimes as the Current Era, is the period beginning with the year 1 onwards.

The term is used for a system of reckoning years that is chronologically equivalent to the Anno Domini (A.D.), which is Latin for "In the year of our Lord".

Therefore, the 3rd letter of the Phonecian alphabet, "gimel", was in use 11 centuries Before the Common Era, which is 8 centuries before the Hebrew language...give or take a few hundred years.

Why give or take a few hundred years? While scholars who study languages are very thorough; we have to remember that they have very little from which to study.

Much of our knowledge of ancient languages comes from the study of hieroglyphics carved into stone and the subsequent attempt to determine which time frame they were carved; from mummies and their accompanying sarcophagi (carved wooden coffins), etc.

Note, however that while the letter G is the 7th letter in the English, Latin and Romanic alphabets, in Russian, and some others, it is 4th; in the Arabic the 5th, and in the Ethiopian language, the 20th.

These languages are much "younger" than the "ancient" languages and most, therefore, are propagations (changes that occurred) to the ancient languages throughout the centuries due to many factors.

The letter G in Freemasonry stands for both the Great Architect of the Universe and Geometry....or, to be more technically correct, it stands for Geometry under the Great Architect of the Universe.

Just as the Supreme Architect of the Universe watches the revolutions of the planets and stars in the sky, so does HE, who placed each of us here, watch each of our movements, hears not only our words, but our thoughts, as well ...and it is to HIM that we are ultimately responsible.

Masonic Hall includes twelve Lodge rooms, decorated and adorned in unique styles. The auditorium-style Grand Lodge Hall on the 3rd and 4th floors seats 1,200 people, and is the meeting place for the Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge. The 14th floor contains the Masonic Library, and the 17th floor contains the Office Suite of the Grand. The building is also home to commercial tenants.

The Grand Lodge of New York (GLoNY), founded on December 15, 1782, is one of 29 independent organizations of Freemasons in the U.S. state of New York. It was at one time the largest grand lodge in the world in terms of membership. Freemasonry is a fraternal organization that arose from obscure origins in the late 16th to early 17th century. Freemasonry now exists in various forms all over the world, with a membership estimated at around six million. the fraternity is organized into independent Grand Lodges, or Grand Orients, each of which governs its own jurisdiction, which consists of subordinate (or constituent) Lodges.

Finally mine arrived, however, the unit arrived doesn't come with zwave module I requested and paid for :(

The holidays have been intense with RL and SL busy mode happening all at once! I hadn't even started my shopping for gifts until yesterday! LOL! OMG!

Some great events and partys on the SL grid way laid my efforts and focus this year. Oh, well... party on peeps...

Louis Volare was playing at Asagao Treasures yesterday. Thank you Montana Laurasia for the event planning and execution. Beautiful music at a beautiful site, and I loved the sky dancer giving the particle show above the stage. Louis is an incredible live musician who plays jazz piano. WOW!

I stopped off to say hello to the New Berlin friends at Electro Smog where Zap Hax was spinning. Can't help leaving everything when Zap sends a tp. His music just puts me in a nice place in my head... especially with all the stress of the holidays!

Promoter Tasty Hax and her team put together an awesome event over at SEAT Beach Club. I saw EVERYONE there including the members of The A List! Woot! Over 50 people were at that event and it was a great stress tester on the sim. Xavi & I, explored it a day ahead and found some nice psy builds.

Ahhh Digital Francis sent an invite over to his Mu sim at the DC-10 club. Love Digi! So we jetted over asap to catch DJ Andy Seiling do his proggy thing... he is a smooth dj that I really enjoy hearing. Lots of peeps were there along with several dj's: Moshi Kamachi (love love this guy), Ionic Benton, Aurora Fairey, Ryz Uriza, Tasty Hax and clubber Lolla Honi. We had a blast! TY Digi!

We promised ourselves that we would only stay at DeRailed for 30 min when DJ Daemonchadeaux sent the tp, but we ended up staying for the entire DJ Blabbermouth set. If you were there, you would know why. Xavi was in heaven! I did some shopping there too, so I did not waste any time! LOL!

Xavi logged out for a dinner break which left me to take care of building business. Yeah, right. DJ Space Greilling sent a tp and the temptation was too great! So, off I went to alt7 alternative club to listen to my favorite alternative dj! Space can keep me in a place indefinitely! I love his contemporary alternative tunes and he always gives us a little musical lesson to go along with it.

I'm off for more! Second Life has so much to do, it is impossible to see and do it all... but, I'm trying! LOL! hehe

onic capital, torus (foliated base), and parts of a fluted column shaft from the Temple of Artemis at Sardis, 4th century b.c.

Greek, Lydian

Marble

H. 142 1/8 in. (361 cm)

Gift of The American Society for the Excavation of Sardis, 1926 (26.59.1)

Parts of this column were found during excavations conducted from 1911 through 1914 at Sardis, the ancient capital of Lydia, in southern Turkey. The fluted column, with most of the shaft omitted, was reconstituted from one or more similar columns and would have stood over fifty-six feet high in its original location. Of particularly fine workmanship is the carving of the foliate ornaments on the Ionic capital, as well as the scale pattern on the torus (foliated base).

This column was once part of the Temple of Artemis at Sardis, one of the cities of western Asia Minor in which Greek influence was continually interwoven with local tradition. After the conquest of Alexander the Great, Sardis became part of the Seleucid empire, which spanned Asia Minor, the Levant, Persia, and as far east as India. Consistent with the predilection for enormous scale already manifest in Archaic temples in western Asia Minor, for instance at Ephesus and Didyma, the one at Sardis ranks among the seven largest of all Greek temples.

Menstrual cramps used to be so bad that I wouldn’t sleep the entire week I was on my cycle. A girlfriend of mine recommended Magnesium Oil by Mineralife, which I spray on my tummy a few times a day when I’m on my cycle. It has so decreased my cramps that I never miss a night of sleep anymore! Using the Magnesium Oil in my bath at night has also helped to relax me and improve my sleep.

Letojanni is a comune (municipality), and coastal resort in the Province of Messina in the Italian region Sicily, located about 170 km east of Palermo and about 32 km southwest of Messina. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,634 and an area of 6.8 km².Letojanni borders the following municipalities: Castelmola, Forza d'Agrò, Gallodoro, Mongiuffi Melia, Taormina.Main economic activities are agriculture and fishing. Products mostly cultivated are corn, olives, wine-grapes, almonds, lemons, mulberries, fruit. Interesting is the yearly manifestation "Agosto a Letojanni" (August at Letojanni) in which the festival of fish and water-melon and the parade of the Sicilian cart take place. It is also to underline the strong inclination of territory to tourism. In fact in the place there is a good receptive offer both hotel and camping supplied with facilities fit to receive very many tourists especially during summer. The etymology of Letojanni is a mixture of Latin and Arabic. The place-name derives in fact from Latin Laetum, that is "rich", and from Arabic Ayn, that means "spring". There are not many information about origin of the little town but it is known that until half of the XVIII century it has been under the jurisdiction of Gallodoro town. In the XIX century it was involved in a high economic increase and in 1880 it gained administrative equality with Gallodoro. The earthquake of 1908 damaged some of its buildings later rebuilt. In 1952 it became an independent commune. The most interesting monuments are the Parish Church in neogothic style, rebuilt in 1929 and keeps inside a beautiful picture of Piety of 1700. An important figure original of Letojanni is the famous surgeon Francesco Durante (1844-1934), who was teacher of surgery of the joints and bony at the University of Studies of Roma and he was together with Guido Baccelli founder of the General hospital of Roma and finally he was also named senator of the Reign.

A Luna marble relief depicting the facade of an Ionic temple with a battle scene in the pediment. The fragment belongs to an altar that is thought to have closely resembled the Ara Pacis in Rome. The fragmentary reliefs, including this one, depicted a procession and sacrifice. One hypothesis is that the panels belonged to an altar set up in honor of the emperor Claudius's return from his campaigns in Britain (decreed by the Senate in 43 CE): the Ara reditus Claudii. Other panels from this altar are on display in the Ara Pacis Museum and on the exterior wall of the Villa Medici in Rome (the so-called Della Valle-Medici panels). The panels may have been reused in the early fourth century; the original altar is thought to have stood on the slopes of the Capitoline Hill, perhaps on the side facing the Theater of Marcellus.

Ionic temple dedicated to Athena, Poseidon, Erechtheus, and other chthonic deities of Attica, 421-406 B.C.

Stoa of Attalos, Ancient Agora of Athens. Built by and named after King Attalos II of Pergamon between 159 and 138 BC, it was restored by the American School of Classical Study in Athens with fundings from the Rockefeller family and now houses the Museum of the Ancient Agora.

- Carlo Lucarelli - Navi a perdere

Originally, 122 enormous Ionic columns surrounded the temple; today only three remain intact. Dating from the 2nd century BC, the columns are 60 feet tall (the height of a six-story building) and have a diameter of 6 feet at the base. Even the stumps of columns that fell are impressive in size and display beautiful carvings at their base.

The Temple of Artemis at Sardis was one of the largest shrines of the Classical World, only three other Ionic temples rivalled it for size, the Artemis Temple at Ephesus, the Apollo Temple at Didyma, and the Hera Temple on Samos. (all of which bar Samos we visited on this trip).

Despite it's ruined condition with only two of the columns surviving at full height the enormous scale of the building continues to inspire awe, several Ionic capitals stand at ground level and give a sense of the fine detail as well as impressive size.

At the rear of the temple is a small ruined Byzantine chapel, suggesting the great building must have been converted to Christian use before it's eventual demise.

The temple we see today was begun c300 BC but left unfinished until the Roman period, when renovation was also necessary following earthquake damage. The decorative finishes were never completed, as is attested by the unfluted columns.
