Elite British Triathlete, Stuart Hayes, captured in a moment of private reflection having just won the 2005 London Triathlon. Whilst, essentially, a sports photographer’s main purpose is perhaps to get strong and saleable PR shots or ones that will be happily bought by editors, I try to keep a more open mind and also remember that a person is a person first beyond what they do.
I know this athlete personally and like him very much indeed. What you see is what you get. Not only is he a superb athlete but also one of the most genuine and likable people I know.
I keep wondering what is actually going through his mind here. I have my own private speculation on that one. I think too, that, in the public gaze with all the attention and noise of the largely British crowd, there is that obligation to respond to them despite exhaustion, dehydration and the adrenalin of crossing the line as the winner of a big event. When the adrenalin effect fades it is back to normal. This is a very strenuous and physically and mentally challenging event and you need to take time out to recover mentally . This image shows that I think is a very subtle way.
Art, Rock, & Talk
With Kate Myers and Wiitala Brothers
Saturday Feb. 26th
Chicago Art Department
Kate Myers’ music is passionate and introspective. Drawing influence from singer/songwriters of the past (Jim Croce, Bob Dylan) and of the present (Conor Oberst, Fiona Apple), she has been able to create a style that is completely and recognizably her own and that transcends the standard coffee shop singer/songwriter genre. Her songs are stories of pain, love, hope and the experience that she has collected through her travels, her family and her years.
Kate’s debut, self-titled album was released in 2004, her second album, “Blanket Sky” in 2006 and her most recent work, “Instant Clarification,” in 2008. She has performed on stages all over the USA and in Europe and is currently writing for her anticipated 4th release.
Wiitala Brothers
“The Wiitalas’ new Bad Blood could be qualified as minimalist indie pop-rock but it’s something much more effective than that might suggest. The duo’s stark guitars and lingering vocals tend to waft around, electrifying the air with their simplicity.”
An introspective, retrospective classical rock evening with Rick Wakeman playing everything from Bowie, The Beatles, a compilation of Yes melodies (Yes Sonata) and his own music sans Yes. Had no idea he was so funny, personal, charming and a good story teller.
"It's much easier to take photographs if you carry your camera with you."....Jay Maisel.
That triangle is supposed to be there, but then it knows that!

Buscando entre las nubes. Ilusión de que los últimos rayos de luz le muestren lo que desea ver... tal vez ya lo haya encontrado.
A woman with long hair rests her chin on her hand, lost in thought. Natural light filters through the window, creating a warm, introspective atmosphere in a comfortable indoor space.

"Color My World" is a shot I couldn't miss. The little red lamp reminds me of a special someone, without hesitation I also realised it was (and still is!) red, the color of passion, of love, the color of so many things. Enjoy!

I'm your only friend
I'm not your only friend
But I'm a little glowing friend
But really I'm not actually your friend
But I am
Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch
Who watches over you
Make a little birdhouse in your soul
Not to put too fine a point on it
Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet
Make a little birdhouse in your soul
I have a secret to tell
From my electrical well
It's a simple message and I'm leaving out the whistles and bells
So the room must listen to me
Filibuster vigilantly
My name is blue canary one note* spelled l-i-t-e
My story's infinite
Like the Longines Symphonette it doesn't rest
Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch
Who watches over you
Make a little birdhouse in your soul
Not to put too fine a point on it
Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet
Make a little birdhouse in your soul
I'm your only friend
I'm not your only friend
But I'm a little glowing friend
But really I'm not actually your friend
But I am
There's a picture opposite me
Of my primitive ancestry
Which stood on rocky shores and kept the beaches shipwreck free
Though I respect that a lot
I'd be fired if that were my job
After killing Jason off and countless screaming Argonauts
Bluebird of friendliness
Like guardian angels its always near
