January 17, 2005 - The theme of the N95 retirement party was "putting the last 737-200 to bed" - which explains why most of the employees were wearing pajamas.
Temperatures on this morning were well below freezing and some of the employees had a hard time giving interviews as they couldn't stop shaking.

Well, [Detroit is bankrupt](nation.time.com/2013/07/25/the-wages-of-bankruptcy-stockt...)....... [Or is it?](www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/07/24/judge-stops...) Its out of cash certainly ........ But some dispute arose over whether it should be allowed to file for bankruptcy and become the biggest American City to go officially into bankruptcy protection ............ it's a tragic situation for the City and for all those that depend of their Detroit City pensions like retired firefighters and teachers and all sorts of other city employees ......... people who have every right and expectation to have earned a reasonable and secure retirement.
I was thinking about Detroit because of it being on the news due to this financial crisis brought about through its long decline. The city has been shrinking along with the fortunes and presence of the American Car Company giants like GM and Ford ........ Those companies have through their own bankruptcies and special financial bailout protections managed to have a bit of a come back......... Sadly, not so Detroit.
But I was also thinking about Detroit because my friend H today gave me a copy of: 'Get Shorty' by Elmore Leonard .......... H said this book was un-put-down-able once started .......... He had just read it on a flight .......... I must give it a peek ........... Because incredibly having even met with and photographed Elmore Leonard in his home in Detroit ....... I have still never read one of his novels or even watched one of the famed movies from the books .......... Many of which, I understand, take as inspiration the tough reality of Detroit's streets and life ........ I was half grimly wondering if this bankruptcy will inspire another un-put-down-able novel ............ :-( :-/ :-)

Interview for "Sailabration"
I was side-by-side with photographers at Fort Smallwood Park only 2 miles from my home Tuesday, for the end of the "Sailabration". This was a place where one could see the 40 ships (both naval, and Tall Ships) that had joined in the week's festivities, leaving Baltimore. There were ships from other countries involved in the Sailabration as well. While there, waiting for ships to pass by, the husband and wife team next to me were asked to be interviewed about the event. Only the wife agreed. I asked the photographer if he wanted me out of the frame but he said I could go or stay, so I stayed (hoping to be in the background as they filmed). I decided to whip out my 3D camera during the interview and snap a few shots.

From the 'Burg to The Barrio

at the Princeton Public Library, Community Room
Sunday, March 24, 2013, at 4:00 P.M.
What happens when a beloved urban community changes? How will a previous generation of immigrants react to a new group with a different language and culture? From the ‘Burg to the Barrio, a 45-minute documentary video, explores the challenges facing the community of Chambersburg in Trenton, New Jersey. Long recognized as the “Little Italy” of Trenton, famous for its Italian restaurants, bakeries, and groceries, the ‘Burg is also a well-established working -class neighborhood where Italian families lived in close proximity to local businesses and to each other.
Today, the ‘Burg still attracts newly-arrived immigrant families, but this time they are from Guatemala, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and other Latin American countries. Italian bakeries continue to bake bread and pastries daily, but they operate alongside bodegas and restaurants that cater to the Latino population. From the ‘Burg to the Barrio shows an ethnic neighborhood in transition with all of its tensions and contrasts as differing cultures meet. By juxtaposing archival footage and photographs of the old Chambersburg with contemporary scenes of community gatherings, festivals, and interviews, the video shows not only the differences, but also the many common dreams and aspirations as residents trying to live their lives and preserve their neighborhood. Although the film takes place in New Jersey, the issues facing the community will resonate with viewers everywhere.
