Lightning has not been kind to me in 2016...
Finally got a nearly-stationary airmass thunderstorm to develop ahead of a weak front just southeast of Kansas City and knew it would be my best chance. Saw plenty of good CGs while looking for a good vantage point.
Deciding I needed to get a little closer than earlier shots, I ventured roughly 5 miles northeast of the first location. Shooting over a cornfield was no fun but the only decent vantage I could find in the dark.

Yuba was a bit peeved that I interrupted his conversation with Mr. Heater. Soon, Mr. Heater will hibernate for the summer and the cats will have to find someone else to commiserate with.
This vehicle was part of a collection of abandoned cars at a long closed garage near the Columbia Gorge Scenic Highway. With the hood up, it appears the mechanic was interupted in his work. I doubt he will return to finish the job.

You know when I haven't had time for pics when I post a *cat drinking running water* pic. My quick and easy option!!
No time for flickr either.
Hope you all have a lovely evening!

While out walking in the woods, I came across this birch branch that had fallen and blocked the path. The way its autumn leaves were spread out created a striking natural pattern, both disrupting the walk and adding to its beauty. It made me think about how nature constantly shapes and reshapes the routes we take, carving out new pathways. There’s something about the arrangement of the branches and leaves that feels like nature’s own way of mapping its course.

Sincere thanks for visiting my Australian nature offerings!

Prayer wheels at Swayambhunath, the Buddhist temple in Kathmandu. The inscriptions on the wheel speak the great Buddhist mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum", which translates into "Oh jewel in the heart of the lotus". This is the mantra of the Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of compassion (of which the Dalai Lama is an incarnation).
The meaning of the prayer is complex, and I will share the current (14th) Dalai Lama's interpretation of the mantra:
"It is very good to recite the mantra Om mani padme hum, but while you are doing it, you should be thinking on its meaning, for the meaning of the six syllables is great and vast... The first, Om symbolises the practitioner's impure body, speech, and mind; it also symbolises the pure exalted body, speech, and mind of a Buddha.
"The path is indicated by the next four syllables. Mani, meaning jewel, symbolises the factors of method: (the) altruistic intention to become enlightened, compassion, and love.
"The two syllables, padme, meaning lotus, symbolise wisdom
"Purity must be achieved by an indivisible unity of method and wisdom, symbolised by the final syllable hum, which indicates indivisibility.
"Thus the six syllables, om mani padme hum, mean that in dependence on the practice of a path which is an indivisible union of method and wisdom, you can transform your impure body, speech, and mind into the pure exalted body, speech, and mind of a Buddha."
I'm interrupting the photos from the wheel to show a few shots of the effects of the dire weather than Europe is suffering from. The Beast From The East has delivered very cold temperatures to us but only a mere 4 inches of snow. As the different severe snow showers hit driving was a bit tricky.
You know how you have an idea for a photo (let's say an Iron Photographer photo, for example) and you get everything together and just as you're about ready to shoot somebody calls on the phone? And then you get it all together again, only this time a package arrives, and you have to quick put on your pants to answer the door? And you get all set up yet again, and the cat chases a green balloon into the frame? And even though you shoo the cat away, it keeps returning, hoping you'll play balloon with her? So you shoot the damned photo anyway, on account of you recognize when you're under the influence of forces beyond your control?
Yeah, that's how my IP attempt worked out.
