I’ve had an interruption in photographing strangers but today, on my way to class, I resumed my Human Family strangers project. My eye was drawn to her as she walked by me with her friend. She was wearing a cap that said “Angel.” The two of them paused, providing me with the opportunity to shake off the rust and approach them. When I explained the project, he was the first to agree, but she came around – even though it was with a bit less enthusiasm. I asked which wanted to go first and he deferred to her. Meet Amilia.
I was ready to ask her to remove her sunglasses when I noticed that her eyes could be viewed over the glasses because she was considerably shorter than I. After positioning her on the covered sidewalk and telling her not to worry about pedestrians because they would simply walk around us, I proceeded to take the portraits. After my test shot, Amilia proceeded to shift her pose like a model, making things easy for me.
Photos taken, I found out that she is 19 and was born and raised in a bedroom suburb of Toronto. I had a bit of trouble hearing her clearly, a combination of the noisy environment, her soft voice, and my less than acute hearing. I learned that Amilia would like to do some kind of government work in the future. When I asked about a challenge she has faced in life she said “marriage.” When I asked for clarification, she said she is married but has had to learn how to accept her husband’s needs. Her message for the project is “Stay pure and at one with yourself.” Her belief is “Purity is Goddesity.” When I asked if she is religious, she said she is.
We exchanged contact information while her friend stood by, waiting his turn, and I thanked her. She was looking forward to receiving her portrait.
This is my 840th submission to The Human Family Group on Flickr.

More practice at a looking-down shot, this time it's in the trope of the object-as-symbol.

With the colours, I tried to link the woman with the statue as they both have red and blue. And I used green on the walls because red and green can often feel sickly or unsettling.
Also, that red statue piece from Adventurers is amazing, we need more Lego parts like that!
The beautiful open Gembrook fields and landscape are interrupted by NGG class NG129 departing Gembrook 7.11.25. but alongside, our photo group was also interrupted by a biker as seen on the right of the screen. not all shots can go to plan.
Many thanks to LaMadrilenya for the title. (It makes me think of Winona Ryder and her spectacular short hair cut during the Girl, Interrupted phase.)
Here's a small male house spider that was feeding on a well-wrapped spider until my flash diffuser touched its web. I was experimenting with a Gaertner microscope objective (80mm) reverse mounted on the front of a Nikon 105mm f2.5 AI-S lens... seeing if there was any difference in image quality comparing reversed to non-reversed mounting. There was... flatness of field was better when reversed and there was a bit more working distance. The combination gives pretty good sharpness... you can just make out a strand of silk at the spinnerets. The flash causes the eyes to take on a "pearly" appearance. The objective was mounted in a home-made RMS threaded aluminum disc adapter fitted with several empty 52mm filter rings to prevent the objective from contacting the front of the 105mm. Lighting was provided by the camera's pop up flash shot through a diffuser made from the bowl that comes in a frozen dinner. The spider was located in the corner of my back porch at about waist height. I had to bend over and try to focus without touching the web (failure). Focusing, done by moving the camera forward / backward, was a bit difficult because it was at night and the diffuser obstructed the porch overhead light, making the viewfinder image very dim. One shot was a total dud, the next (this one), was better but contact with the web caused the spider to break away from its meal.

This building houses a store called "Theatre Books" near the University of Toronto. I was transfixed by the incredible shadow cast by the balcony.

I rudely interrupted Norio's bath to take his picture. He didn't mind and wasn't embarrassed in the least.
Blacktron diplomatic transport
Short range shuttle for Blacktron negotioators. Front of the ship is a next-gen cockpit for pilot and copilot. Behind it is seating for passangers with large windows. In the rear section is cargo bay, currently occupied by small shufflebot (Alienator style).
Colors resemble transition between Blacktron I and II. I really like this cockpit style and I think it fits Blacktron technology very well. Not much firepower on this one, main features are large tranparent parts and feather style wings.
This MOC is a rebuild of my old Interruptor shuttle from 2010:
Agnes flips through skateboarding magazines as Sabrina rushes around the kitchen tidying.
Sabrina's childhood friend, Emma, is due to arrive any minute.
Sabrina and Emma have not seen each other in a long time and have lost touch over the last few years- until recently.
Sabrina received an e-mail from Emma a few months ago explaining that she was planning on moving to the city and the two have been connecting online and through text about getting Emma settled with a job and an apartment.
Despite the fact that the girls have only recently and sparingly been reacquainted, Sabrina anxiously awaits the arrival of what she still considers one of her dearest and oldest friends.
Sabrina: I'm so excited to see Emma! I wish I had more time to clean though. This place is really getting pretty messy lately...
Agnes: Wow, these latest Habitat boards are so cool! They're a lot like Element but without-
Sabrina: Agnes, what are these lemons doing all over the counter? This counter was spotless when I left for work this morning... Do you think you could please possibly read your magazines later and help me clean?
Agnes: UH - Have we just met? HEY! Don't touch my lemons, I'm not finished!
Buzzer: BZZZZZZ!

We've enjoyed a marvelous winter so far, with warm (almost balmy) temps and little to no snow to shovel. However, the weatherman is interrupting our winter with ... winter! Yup, 4-8 inches of snow headed our way, with colder temps. We knew it had to come sooner or later. :) So there's no better occasion than a Winter Weather Advisory to dig out a photo from last summer of some of my favorite flowers.
HBW!
