An example of why interoperability is as important as the electronic health record itself.
The story behind this photo: This is a printout of a patient's medical record, sent from one office to another as the patient was changing primary care providers. An EHR was in place in both offices. Additionally, the EHR in both offices was created by the same vendor (a major vendor); each health organization had a customized version. Without base standards the systems are incompatible. Instead, the printouts had to be scanned into the new record, making them less searchable and less useful.
Note that this was not the entirety of the patient's medical record... Just the first batch received.

A Photo a Day - September 14, 2010.
New business cards courtesy of the late Jon Hansen. Apparently some of his things were sold with his intention that the funds go back to the team. One of our team members and his close friend tried to give the money to his family, but they refused saying that they were well taken care of and that his wishes were that the team should have it. So with the funds, each team member now has a box of business cards and will be getting some shirts as well. Thanks Jon!
Incidentally, several people have inherited his duties over the past couple of years and starting this week I have been reassigned to his former position. It's some very big shoes to fill. I've got a lot to learn and I just hope I can be half as good as he was at the job.
Jon Robert Hansen, 47, of Arlington, Va., and a previous summer resident of Sherwood Forest, died of colon cancer June 23, 2010 in his home.
Mr. Hansen was born Dec. 23, 1960, in Washington, D.C., to Marilyn "Lynn" Propf Hansen of Annapolis and the late Robert Hansen. He graduated from Springbrook High School in Silver Spring in 1979 and from the University of Richmond in 1983.
He worked as a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service telecommunications expert, and was one of those who set up radio contact between first responders after the Sept. 11 attack on the Pentagon. As a member of a special task force, he helped rebuild the communications infrastructure for the New Orleans police and fire departments after Hurricane Katrina.
His numerous commendations included Firefighter of the Year in 1986 from the Hillandale Volunteer Fire Department in Silver Spring.
He was actively involved with the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Urban Search and Rescue Service, as well as the Department of Homeland Security's National Capital Region "JCOMM" groups.

Established in 1949 with 12 founding members, NATO is now an alliance of 29 countries. At the heart of NATO is collective defence, set out in Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, NATO’s founding Treaty. The UK is one of NATO’s 12 founding members and London was home to its first headquarters.
