POHANG, Republic of Korea (Nov. 14, 2007) Amphibious assault vehicles of Company E, Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU), III Marine Expeditionary Force (III MEF), conduct an amphibious landing from the USS Juneau (LPD-10), Nov. 14, during Korean Interoperability Training Program 08. The amphibious landing was conducted to provide the Republic of Korea military the sustained capability to respond to future contingencies from ship to shore. KITP is an annual bilateral exercise to maintain readiness and sustain the long-term security assistance relationship between the Republic of Korea and U.S. military.

Soldiers assigned to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 111th Aviation Regiment, 77th Combat Aviation Brigade, conducted deck landings in the Arabian Gulf, Oct. 11-12. The UH-60 Blackhawk and AH-64 Apache crews took turns landing their aircraft aboard the USNS Alan Shepard to qualify their crews in this type of maneuver. Upon completion of the qualification each set of aircraft was refueled by the vessel and flown back to Camp Buehring, Kuwait. Training exercises like these play an important role in mission readiness and total force capability by increasing interoperability between branches, which is vital for joint collaboration missions (U.S. Army photos by Sgt.
