Joey and Tatum

Last year was one of the craziest, busiest years of my entire life. I worked close to full time at Earls Restaurant in Bellevue and did the 3rd year internship program at City Church for Media, as well as having the busiest photography year yet. I lived with two crazy dudes, one of which will make a special appearance in the 365 soon. The other roommate to whom I shared a room with for an entire year is a guy known by the name, Joey Cruz. If you know Joey, you are a pretty lucky person. He’s probably one of the craziest; I’ll do whatever personalities since steve-o. If all of my friends had reality TV shows, Joey’s is the one I would watch. Besides all this craziness, Joey is a super solid dude. He has a serious passion for Jesus, and the way he lives life is contagious. Here is a pretty Gnarly video of joey falling off a 30 foot rope swing.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlgnBDA46zA

This photograph is of the love of his life, Tatum. She’s an incredible girl, has traveled the world, has amazing tattoos and is the woman Joey will be spending the rest of his life with. She’s kind of the opposite of Joey, which is so perfect because that’s exactly what he needs! Calms down the crazy!

I chose this photograph of the engagement session we did yesterday, because of just how perfect it is. Joey being crazy, funny, urinating off a 50 foot cliff, while Tatum stands with her arms crossed making a, “I cannot believe you Joey” expression. I really hope this makes you smile as much as it makes me laugh.

Joey and Tatum, I love you guys! Congrats and thanks for giving me the green light on posting this photo.

German Memories in Asia is a collection of memories by the author Rajkumar Kanagasingam, in his association with the German university students, who have been volunteering in Asia under an internship program.

German Memories in Asia narrates the fascinating early human migration from Africa to the rest of the world and the sensitive issues of Asian and European historical events, especially the German, since the Roman Empire era and about the Germans in Germany, Latin America, North America, East European countries, Australia and elsewhere in the world and their migrations, life styles, encounters and assimilation since ancient times.

It analyses the Franco-Prussian War and the Otto von Bismarck's diplomacy, Austria & the divided German states, German-Brazilians today, the Pennsylvania's Amish County & the Mennonite communities, the German colonies in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Volga Germans in Russia under Bolshevist atrocities and the First and Second World War issues of Kaiser William II and his diplomatic chaos, Firebombing on Dresden, Danube Swabians and their expulsion, the U.S. President Gen. Dwight D Eisenhower in the crisis of starving German POWs and more.

It explores the author's encounters in his early days in the war-ravaged Jaffna Peninsula in the northern part of the Indian Ocean's war-torn island and then as an officer in an American NGO in the jungles under the control of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and then in a tsunami relief mission there with German students.

It reveals the author's experience in his early days in the Dutch Fort of Jaffna, a superior Fortress, probably the strongest fortification in Asia recalling the memories of Portuguese and Dutch era Jaffna.

The book is a memorable testimony for German students' life and fashion in Asia at their residency at the Aquarius Resorts in Marawila, a sleepy western coastal town of Sri Lanka facing the scenic Indian Ocean!

PROGRAM QUALITY

we evaluates every project we offer to ensure that we only commit to programs with genuine need for volunteer aid, not just financial assistance. We develop relationships with the programs, and help shape initiatives to ensure that in the long run, we do not encourage dependence on outside help. Rather, we establish foundations on which the people can build and develop themselves. We also ensure that the members of those communities are open and eager to learn and discover our culture, as we become a part of theirs. The quality and sustainability of our programs are very important to us. We want you to have the most fulfilling and memorable time possible, and are part of something that is going to last into the future generations.

PROGRAMS

There are numerous programs for volunteers both in rural and urban areas that empower individuals to be agents of change, reach out and involve community members in their own initiatives. Our volunteering opportunities in Kenya are in the areas of Education and training for children from under-privileged families, orphanages and care centres, health care and HIV/AIDS education and counseling.

If you are looking for teaching opportunity in schools or medical internship in hospitals, we offer very unique and customized opportunities for a lifetime internship experience in Kenya. The projects we offer can be under taken on either long term or short term goals and focus on traditional education, social education and community development.

Children Program in Orphanages : Working in an orphanage in Kenya is an opportunity to make an input and create hope in the lives of orphans, destitute and youth who live in extreme poverty. This program is designed to create an atmosphere where orphaned children can experience the fun and excitement of learning and feel part of the fortunate world to offer them the hope in life.

Children Program in Orphanage/Care Center

The orphanage work program is highly challenging and rewarding, as you will be changing the lives of orphaned children who rarely receive opportunities to interact with other people. Share love and care for innocent, troubled, and forgotten children, offer them a profound gift.. Working with orphaned children demands lots of patience, as these children’s harsh living conditions have often alienated them from society.

A volunteer’s responsibility depends on the needs of the orphanage and the skills and interests of the volunteer. Most of the orphanages aim at the provision of education opportunities to orphans; therefore, in most cases, volunteers teach basic conversation English to the children. Volunteers also help in developing creative programs such as art, music, dance, sports, etc. Additional help on day trips, sanitation, cooking, and administration might be requested.

Children Feeding Program

Children at the Center

One of the most wonderful opportunities that work in children orphanage can give you is the chance to share your love and skills with poor orphaned children. Many volunteers have deemed the work life changing. By offering attention and love to children, you are making a real difference in the life of a young person. Whether you have a background in childcare or simply enjoy sharing love with kids, a smile can offer something meaningful to the life of kids deprived of love and care.

As a volunteer, you can help care for children in orphanages. Children are an integral part of all societies around the world and providing adequate care for them is an important part of everyday life. As an international volunteer this type of placement provides an opportunity for active hands-on work as well as a unique cultural exchange opportunity. Many orphanages are community initiated and operated by local community members. Often government support and staff are minimal; therefore the institutions are not provided with the necessary resources to optimize the children’s care. The orphanages rely upon volunteers to support their long-term sustainable initiatives through simple tasks and creative energy. Sharing your time with the children, you will be offering them the family love which they have not been privileged with, you will be presenting to them a reason to live as normal as you and us.

You may be assisting with daily routines helping cook and feed the children, playing with them, and devising games for their leisure after school and on weekends. Through all that you do, the individual attention and love that you give the children will last in their memories for a lifetime. The single most important factor in the development of young children is relationships with caring adults. Whether you have a background in childcare or simply enjoy caring for young children, a smile or hug can be a meaningful and long-term contribution.

In addition, the dialogue and interaction with local staff provides a rare opportunity for you to share ideas with them and build morale. The most important attributes needed for these placements are an open heart and a love for spending time with children. In some placements you will quickly pick up on the daily routine while in others you may need to be more creative in coming up with ideas.

The Indigenous Youth Internship Program has supported 242 interns to date and is one of the most successful programs of its kind in Canada. Established in 2007, up to 25 Indigenous youth ages 19 to 29 are placed into 12-month paid internships each year. The interns spend nine months in the BC Public Service followed by three months in one of over 100 selected Indigenous organizations across BC.

A ceremony celebrating the latest group of interns to complete the Aboriginal Youth Internship Program (AYIP) is held October 25, 2016.

The event – attended by Chiefs, elders and leaders from First Nations communities across the province – showcases a program that helps First Nations, Metis and Inuit youth gain work experience in government and community organizations. As well as work experience, AYIP provides participants with valuable networking, professional and leadership skill development.

This year marks a milestone for the program, which has welcomed 10 cohorts of interns to its ranks.

This program is designed to create an atmosphere where orphaned children can experience the fun and excitement of learning and feel part of the fortunate world to offer them the hope in life

•Supervise their studies and assignments.

Teaching in Local Schools

We have a variety of programs that educate both children and youth in various capacities. #WOMENINSTEM WEDNESDAY - #CONSERVATIONLANDS15 STYLE: BLM EMPLOYEE LARA KOBELT IN HER OWN WORDS

“Five years ago, at just 22, I moved from Ohio to Rock Springs, Wyoming, to work for the BLM under the chicagobotanicgarden’s Conservation and Land Management Internship Program. I was a Seeds of Success Intern, so my field partner and I traveled around the field office collecting hundreds of thousands of seeds for restoration, research, and native plant materials development.

I worked back east for a year, but…the west is the best! So I applied to the CLM internship program again, and requested to work in one of the southwest deserts. I ended up in Needles, California, collecting seeds for the SOS program.

I was offered a Student Career Experience Program (now Pathways Program) position in Needles, was accepted into the Master of Science in Forestry program at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona, and I’ve been here ever since.

At work, I’m researching the genetic study of sky island white fir populations in the Kingston Range Wilderness of the Needles Field Office. A fir is one of the more popular species used as Christmas trees – picture that in the middle of the Mojave Desert! These mountains are so special – they serve as “rest areas” for migratory bird species and are a hide-out for mountain lions, bobcats, and desert bighorn sheep. There are several plants that grow in this wilderness and nowhere else in the world.

At the end of the day, though, National Conservation Lands are important to me because, whether at work or on the weekends, I spend a lot of time in, on, and around National Conservation Lands. I’ve backpacked up crazy scary mountains in the Kingston Range Wilderness to look for the elusive white fir trees. During a backpacking trip in the Chemehuevi Mountains Wilderness, it rained for almost 12 hours, and I got to hike in fog in the middle of the desert. I’ve been to all the wilderness areas in the Needles Field Office, and I always find something new and interesting - be it a tiny flower, a new water source seeping up from the ground, or bighorn sheep peering at me from the next ridge over.

When I get stressed out by school or overwhelmed at work, the only thing that truly fixes me is getting out into the wilderness. I ditch my phone, my computer, and my proximity to roads and cars and electricity. National Conservation Lands and Wilderness make you get out of your car, and totally surrounded by nature. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

HU is a strong advocate of internationalization, as such it took an initiative to develop linkages with AIESEC, which is a Global Youth Organization that facilitates international student exchange and internship programs around the globe. HU male & female students were selected in a very competitive global selection system for internships in Turkey, Indonesia & Malaysia, where they worked for a period of 1-2 months in various leading organisations.

Sehar Sarwar is one of them, and we are very proud of her accomplishments. She is currently pursing BBA (Hons.) from Hajvery University, and she's written an article 'Unforgettable Indonesia' to describe her experience with AIESEC and working in Indonesia.

Nama saya sehar, saya dari Pakistan (My name is Sehar, I’m from Pakistan). Well that is just little introduction in Indonesian language (bahasa). I am studying business administration in HU and currently enrolled in my second last semester. I recently came back from Indonesia after doing 45 days internship there. This tremendous and valuable opportunity was provided by HU in collaboration with AIESEC Pakistan. AIESEC, the world’s largest student organization, is the international platform for young people to discover and develop their potential so as to have a positive impact on society. I was awarded with GCDP (global community development program) in Indonesia. I went to the capital city Jakarta, where AIESEC is run by some passionate students of UI (university of Indonesia).

It was life changing experience. I learned a lot from the Project that I worked in, BISA AIDS. In Indonesia HIV Aids rate is very high and every day people are dying of it. Being a business student, getting knowledge on HIV was absolutely new and ofcourse useful for me. Besides this I got an opportunity to work with different people from Brazil, Japan, China, Philippine, and Holland. I also learned from them on HIV Aids conditions in their countries. First we got training from an NGO and UI LC then we visited different high school students to give awareness on HIV. It was pretty interesting project, and I really enjoyed interacting with Indonesian students, they were so enthusiastic. I enjoyed the project because I was working for a good cause besides this I shared Pakistani culture, language and about myself so everybody enjoyed learning from each other. As part of a project, we raised some funds for HIV Aids patients and donated it to a NGO. It was a feeling that I just can’t describe in words. I learned basic Indonesian language as well. Overall this exposure was really good for my personal as well as professional life.

Well that was about the project and my daily routine there. As far as the country is concerned, it’s more or less like Pakistan. Indonesia is a Muslim country, Jakarta is the capital. A lot of people come here from other cities to work, so it's quite populated; weather is hot and rainy. In my opinion people are more religious there and involved in socio-economic development activities specially youth, traditional cloths are limited to special occasions only and they wear casual western cloths in daily routine. Pace of life is very fast there, people are involved in many activities besides studies and work, the roads are flooded with heavy traffic. Jakarta is a city of modern big malls, food is extremely delicious but spicy. Martabak is the traditional sweet, really delicious but its oily pancake and so not healthy, but still everybody loves it.

I observed Significant changes in language, food, business development and economical conditions, and clothes. Currently this country is facing problems in terms of heavy traffics, over population, heavy rains and corruption but on the other hand they are participating in development activities and striving for change. Literacy rate is good with 92 %. Economical conditions are good too. It’s a good country to invest in.

Most of the times I use to travel alone, using public transports but with directions provided by AIESECERS. As I mentioned above the traffic conditions are worst, it takes too much time to go from one place to another. Train is the fastest mode of travel. In the beginning it was little hard to travel alone for a girl who has never experienced in her own country, but with time I managed myself and now I consider it really good. It made me more confident and after it I actually found that I can travel the whole world alone.

I made a new best friend there, and I miss her very much. She was with me most of the times, she was not in my project, nor an AIESECER, but the love and friendship is unconditional. I really miss our hang outs, the trips in which we enjoyed together. This one time, I cooked our Pakistani food for her family and they just LOVED it. Beautiful memories!

It was an internship but for me a vacation too. In Jakarta I visited Monus, kota tua (old city), some museums, explored mouth watering Indonesian food in exotic restaurants, splash every weekend hangout for fun loving people, karaoke etc but the real beauty is the Indonesian islands and so I have been to unforgettable trips to islands and other cities like Tidung Island, Green canyon, botanical garden in bogor, Bali (a must visit if you go Indonesia, people say its heaven and after being there I really believe it specially at dream land beach and jimbaran).

I personally find the Indonesians very helping, hospitable, and friendly people with smiling faces. Every day I met different people working in different projects; while traveling they curiously asked about Pakistan and our culture. Some of my friends from Holland used to think that Pakistan is a victim of terrorism because of religion, but I gave them examples of our Prophet Muhammad (s.w.w) and told them that Islam is a religion of peace and this conversation went for quite long, I am happy that now they think otherwise. I feel proud that I represent my country, many people and my religion and left a very positive image behind. I made many friends and visited their families and this gives me a chance to know more about Indonesian people who don’t know you but still make you feel like a family.

During the internship I made friends from many countries including Brazil, Indonesia, Estonia, China, Japan, Holland, and India. It’s really good to know them, their countries, culture, our hang out, trips and everything. We are in touch and talk about the time we spent together and that brings smiles and big laughter.

From this internship the most important thing I have gained is that in the project I played my role as a team leader and so I have gain the leadership skills, a lot more confidence by traveling on my own. I was the master of ceremony for AIESEC info session 2012 at Binus university and that makes my communication skills more strong. It really makes you feel great that you are working for the betterment of mankind and global development. After this internship I found the right way for my career. I believe there are many ways open if you have a passion to stand out among millions of people.

There is a lot more to write but I can’t go for that so why don’t you be an AIESECER and experience it by yourself. I highly recommend youth to work for the betterment of your country as well as for the world and make it a better place to live. Step forward and be a true diplomat of your country.
