Ground condition is everything when tossed away
and some even buried , hopefully found with some ballast less soils and when pine trees are trackside and poison ivy is covering soils with iron and cast iron parts usually those parts that are buried in soil corrosion on the parts are so bad making whatever found barely worth attempting to restore .
This stand is one of them , while more intact and a small piece
missing the stand is not cracked and for a small display its worth a little restoration .
However this stand while much together, what rust was removed even the cast iron itself is breaking down unlike the other stand that was found at another location. This stand was buried in acidic soils .

For anyone else who may try this pattern, I highly recommend using one of these to follow the chart.

I cut the final shape out of a sheet of 6mm MDF.sand off the edges then apply undercoat/sealer to both sides
The universal laser we ordered came in some fairly sophisticated (obviously laser cut) packaging. This is me pulling the interlocks free of the sides (there were 2 holding the box together)
In progress - gives a better view of the structure. I like that when you get to the edges you get your hexagon back!
