Two rings- the outer copper, the inner brass, that slide apart. Inspired by the old locks I saw while in Italy.
One sock is totally bigger than the other, despite the fact that it's the same yarn, same needles, same number of repeats...I knit the first while taking muscle relaxants and pain killers right before and right after my surgery. The second one was knit mostly sober about a week later. Le sigh.
Anne W's first jigsaw shows the jubilation of a young boy having earnt enough money to buy himself a best friend and partner (Lower Left). The illustration was part of a series by Henry (Hy) Hintermeister with titles ('A Financial Problem', 'The New Partner' and 'Responsibility'.
Top Row: "A Financial Problem" The first in the series shows the barefoot newspaper urchin, with an empty dog collar and rope lead, gazing longingly at a terrier in a pet shop window. In his hand are a few coins, but not enough for the $25 needed. The alert dog is clearly eager to go to the boy.
Anne's jigsaw shows part 2, the triumphal exit of the boy with the dog, carrying his papers, watched by the kindly shop keeper.
Top Row Left: Vintage c200pc "How Much Is That Doggie In The Window?"by Hy Hintermeister, c14x10in, push-fit cut. Sold by a Canadian BCD member in April 2014.
Top Row Centre & Right: Parker Pastime 545pc Hy Hintermeister A Financial Problem (doggie in window series) sold by Macys, 20x15in, 60fig. Resold by Bronwen in Nov 2021.
Lower Left: "The New Partner"
James Browning of U-Nit 256pc The New Partner, by Hy Hintermeister (from the Doggie In The Window Saga). The plywood jigsaw has 32fig, measures 14.5x10.5in, and Anne thinks it is c1960s.
Lower Right: "Responsibility"
The jigsaw on the right shows part3, the new partnership in action. The best friend will mind the urchin's newspaper stand whilst he goes away to get his lunch. The dog is attentive to his master's wagging finger. The writing on the sign is naive, and one is heart-broken that a barefoot urchin is having to work at such a tender age.
Vintage American 220pc Responsibility Hy Hintermeister, 10.5x14.5in, whimsy cut. Interlocking pieces have a good variety of knob shapes. Sold by American ebay seller cJune 2022.
James T Browning, of U-Nit

From Anne Williams's book:
James Browning of East Orange & West Caldwell New Jersey was a carpenter & contractor who began making U-Nit jigsaws in 1932. He cut in stacks of 3 using very fine blades, first using 3ply then moving to baswood veneered with Spanish cedar. When Parker Pastime finished in 1958 he bought up their prints, and adopted some of their more abstract figural shapes.
He sold his jigsaws mainly through retailers such as toy shop FAO Schwarz, bookstores Brentano's and Womrath's in New York. One large order went to Brazil. He also rented puzzles locally and through NJ bookstores. In the late 1940s he, his teenage son and three local teenage girls were running five scroll saws in their basement workshop. James Browning finally retired approaching 80 in the late 1960s. His main brands were U-Nit and the rarer Leisure Hour.
Song "How Much Is That Doggie In The Window - woof woof"
A song popular with my parents, which I remember when growing up in the 1960s. A popular novelty song written by Bob Merrill first registered on September 25, 1952. On April 4, 1953, singer Patti Page's rendition of "The Doggie in the Window" went to No. 1 in the US Billboard magazine chart, staying at that top spot for eight weeks. The song was wildly popular across a wide demographic. Mercury Records was besieged with requests for free puppies, and the American Kennel Club's annual registrations spiked by eight percent. In all, Page's record sold over 2 million copies. It was the third best-selling song of 1953.
Following the UK top ten debut of Lita Roza's cover version on March 19, 1953, the Patti Page version of the song was released in the UK on March 28. The Roza version reached No. 1 on April 23, where it stayed for a single week. For five weeks between March 28, 1953, and April 25, 1953, there were two versions of "Doggie" in the UK's Top 12 singles chart.

PRECIOSA ORNELA presents the new PRECIOSA Pipâ„¢ pressed bead from the PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Beads brand.
The bead’s dimensions of 5 x 7 mm comply with the current trend for mini beads. The axially symmetric flattened shape of the small core enables the realisation of half metal coating on both sides of the bead with the resulting effect of an overall decoration. The strung beads fit together tightly and create an interlocking zip effect. Six beads connected in a circle can easily be used to create an application in the shape of a flat flower which is a suitable accessory for seed bead embroidery. Thanks to its small protrusion, this bead is an excellent accessory to the two-hole PRECIOSA Twin™ beads and seed beads, like PRECIOSA Solo™.

An inbound Metra Electric passes the old IC interlocking tower at Homewood. It hasn't been used for a number of years now, but it makes for a neat photo opportunity.
See, its just traingle twists really. Its been under a book for a week but still wants to curl up. I might try wetting it a bit.
Ten Interlocking Nonagonal Stars #2 90 units
9-fold view.
With an icosahedral symmetry model to be folded from 10 nonagons, this compound was easily overlooked. While it is massively uninteresting, looking exactly like the other members of the set, it has exactly the same weaving as the first compound. That's a first- two differnt compounds in the exact same fashion, just distributed differently. I think this might be some sort of link between chiral and rotational symmetries. Maybe interesting after all...
Designed by me.
Folded out of memo, kami, and matte foil.
