The trains would go complete the loop on the right, then the tower operator would align the switches and lights for them to back into the terminal, so they could leave engine first.
Here are the signals protecting the interlocking junction between CP and CN where the Windsor Sub meets the CASO. As you can tell no trains use the CASO anymore although this track is not officially abandoned. Camera is looking South but trains would be Eastbound.
Detailed close up of the interlocking mechanism. The little clip pops out of the throttle lever when the reverser is engaged. This clip hits against the interlocking mechanism, thus preventing the lever from forward movement. The first 2 pics show the clip and the interlock, the last 2 show better detail of the lever portion without the interlock installed.
