My first picture uploaded to Flickr! ^^ Basically its a pic of my computer workstation at home. The Armadillo goes on the bed but I wanted to include it in this picture because its so snuggly! ^^ Between the printer and headphone/amp are my Roomba remote, 60GB iPod Video, digital watch, and car keys. The Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 is out for X3, a new game I just got into. The monitor is a 19" Dell Flat Panel Display (OK, this Dell item doesn't suck). As you can see my desk is positioned so that anyone walking into the room can't see my monitor. ^^
What we have here is piece of classic tech found at a lovely Suburban home in Los Angeles. This is a multi-room intercom-cum-cassette-radio console. This so reminds me of those classic GE washing machine and Microwave advertisements. I am pretty sure that people back then in the early 80s thought that this was the pinnacle of cool technology. One could use this panel to control what would play in which room of the house - Intercom, Radio or Cassette. Fascinating.
And you know what?
This seemingly archaic system still totally works. (Except the Cassette player which no one has used in decades) Now that is totally cool... I doubt in this age of quick and cheap - much will continue to work in 2040. But this workhorse, in a all probability, will still be streaming analog signals down copper wiring perfectly well.

1986 Chris Craft Constellation 500. Powered by twin Detroit 6v92t diesel engines with only 1300 hrs and fitted with a 20kw Onan diesel generator. Boat has been well kept and waxed/polished every year. Very roomy comfortable layout with 3 full heads and a large master suite in the aft cabin. This is the intercom at my friends' apartment building. Each number has a '#' in front of it, but the instructions say to not press the '#'. WTF?
