I was surprised to see such a worn out set of speaker/intercoms on a brand new building down Cardiff bay. I suspect the salty air has something to do with it.

To use you page up and down through the display and press call to ring a shareholder.

The morning rush hour hustle at about 8:30 am or so. I watched 3 trains go by with no room for people - within 20 minutes. We need some of those train employees that squash passengers into the train like Tokyo/Japan has ... or use to have at least (anyone know whether they still do that?)

*** I've come to realize, from some close family friends, that some people's browser/internet-viewing-device settings won't let them see the comment/notes I've put on top of the image itself, so ...

1. Yes, the one of many Customer Assistance Intercoms.

2. I thought this was sort of an interesting design :) You can see whether the trains are coming from the point of entry (where you pay with metro cards). Although there is an electronic annoucement too.

3. This goes at least yards further into the distance of people completely packed. Trust me. I'm near the front of the trains, ha ha.

"Que essa minha vontade de ir embora

se transforme na calma e na paz

que eu mereço.

E que essa tensão

que me corrói por dentro

seja um dia recompensada.

Que as palavras que eu falo

não sejam ouvidas como prece

e nem repetidas com fervor,

apenas respeitadas,

como a única coisa que resta

a um homem inundado de sentimentos.

Porque metade de mim é partida,

mas a outra metade é saudade."

The Atlantic 85 is part of the B-class of lifeboats that serve the shores of the United Kingdom and Ireland as a part of the RNLI inshore fleet.

The Atlantic 85 is the third generation B-class Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) developed from the Atlantic 21 and the later Atlantic 75. The Atlantic design of the B-class of lifeboats is named after Atlantic College, where the design was originally developed.

Design

The hull is constructed in a fibre reinforced composite, consisting of a carbon fibre and foam core laminate with an epoxy glass and foam sandwich layup. The tubes are Hypalon.

The boat is powered by twin 115 hp (86 kW) Yamaha 4-stroke outboard engines that have been inversion-proofed to ensure the engines are still operational after a capsize.

Like previous RIBs, it has a manually operated self-righting mechanism that deploys an airbag mounted atop the A-frame. It is capable of being beached in an emergency without sustaining damage to engines or steering gear. The Atlantic 85 is fitted with radar and VHF direction finding equipment and can be operated safely in daylight in a force 6/7 and at night in a force 5/6.

The Atlantic 85 also has intercom communications between the crew and VHF radio via their helmets, DGPS & Chartplotter. It also carries a searchlight, night-vision equipment and illuminating paraflares for night-time operations.

To ensure equipment is kept to a high standard of repair, boats go through annual or bi-annual overhauls, and 4-year refits.

Our apartment is a little dated.. as in from the early 1900's.

The intercom system has not been updated since then. So we have THIS thing next to the front door of our apartment..

The first time the faint ringer went off to signal that someone was outside the building, I was unsure what to do.

I picked up the little ear piece and fiddled with the switch on the buttom of the old fashioned phone thingie. I heard a faint crackling.. which seemed promising.

"Hello??"

I leaned over and spoke into the microphone thingie.

"Hello?"

Eric started laughing. I gave up and ran down the long narrow hallway to greet my friend at the front door of the building instead.

I guess the relic is pretty useless at this point. It's an interesting piece of history. An artifact from another Era.. I like to imagine what the original tenants looked like, what their story was. the family or person that lived here has probably long since passed away...

Question: Have you ever lived or do you currently live in an old building or house? What year was it built?

From opening in 1978 motorists using the West Gate Bridge were charged a toll, that was paid at the toll booths at the city end of the bridge, at the current location of the West Gate service centres. The administration building was retained by VicRoads, until it was sold to property developer MAB Corporation in 2010 and then demolished.

Phillip (22), Formula 1 Motorsports Solutions Specialist: “In 2013 I began my apprenticeship as an electronics technician for devices and systems at RIEDEL. Since completing the program in 2017 I have been a Motorsports Solutions Specialist for the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 team’s intercom and radio systems. At each race, I am initially responsible for the technical set-up of race control and all groups working in the pitlane. Then I set up and commission the communications system for Team Sauber. After that, my focus is on supporting the team and making sure everything runs smoothly. After each race, we immediately dismantle and pack our gear for the next race.

At RIEDEL, I particularly enjoy the friendly atmosphere – almost everyone knows each other – and the opportunity to travel around the globe.”
