Vogelsang IP International Place

"Ordensburg Vogelsang" is a former Nazi estate placed at the former military training area in Eifel National Park in North Rhine-Westphalia. The landmarked and completely preserved estate was used by the National Socialists between 1936 and 1939 as an educational centre for future leaders. Since January 2006 the area has been open to visitors.

The visitor center leads to two exhibitions. One exhibition explains the former use of the complex and reveals the crimes of the past. There is also an exhibition about the Eifel National Park. There are numerous guided tours offered by the visitor center.

Artist and designer Daan Roosegaarde has developed an interactive artwork of lights. The artwork is a huge collection of small lights that glow up when people pass by. The artwork responds when people walk by it through hidden sensors and microphones. 70% of the lights is activated by movement while the other 30% is activated by sound. The intensity of light responds to the amount of sound, so in case something happens screaming will light the place intensely. A second advantage is the power consumption. Normally the lights in tunnels are on the whole night also when nobody uses the tunnel. With these configuration of software, sensors and lights the lights only work when the tunnel is used. Other companies have shown interest to use this on for instance highways. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSSG9gJjP2w
