On Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at the University of Mississippi’s Gertrude C. Ford Center, Mr. James Meredith was recognized by both that educational institution and the U.S. Marshals Service. With the 60th anniversary of the integration of the University approaching on October 1, the institutional ceremony, entitled “The Mission Continues-Building Upon the Legacy,” gave USMS Director Ronald L. Davis the perfect opportunity to award Meredith one of highest honors he could, and made him an Honorary Deputy U.S. Marshal. In the history of the U.S. Marshals Service only a handful of people have ever received this honor.

Of the approximately 350 deputy U.S. marshals and deputized personnel that ensured the registration and safety of Mr. Meredith during this time, few are living today. Retired Deputy U.S. Marshal Herschel Garner, the youngest of the cadre of deputies present during the riots that preceded registration, attended the ceremony representing all of them.

This historical event continues the partnership between the USMS and the University of Mississippi in recognizing the importance of educational equality and the role of our deputies in bringing this about. While it truly was a battle that resulted in Mr. Meredith attending and graduating from the school of his choice, the decade celebrations from 2002 to 2022 remain important moments in their own right.

So happy to have Gabriel dressed and out of his box for a bit finally (Bridgid too!).

The Lumia 800 is a stylish looking handset and its build quality is also first-rate. It's a fun phone to use, thanks to Microsoft's slick Windows Phone 7.5 software, which has excellent integration for social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter. The Nokia Mix Radio streaming service may not be revolutionary, but the fact it's free and has a good selection of tunes and playlists makes it a welcome addition. We also like Nokia's Drive navigation software, especially as you can download maps to avoid incurring roaming charges when using it abroad. The range of apps available for Windows Phone is growing steadily. Even so, you stilll won't find anywhere near as many in the Windows Phone Marketplace as you will in Apple's App Store or Android Market. The phone's battery life is on a par with most other smart phones so you can expect to have to charge it at the end of each day. Call quality is excellent and it's good at maintaining a connection in weaker signal areas. If you're not overly concerned with having a particularly high-resolution screen, and are willing to put up with a camera that's not quite as good as other similarly-priced smart phones, then the Lumia 800 is a good option. This is especially true if you're looking for an alternative to the iPhone that still offers a very polished user experience.

integration a big issue, and my way to say it fits it's a part of us.

More than 250 friends and supporters joined EHMC Foundation for “Be Integrative,” a spectacular evening reception to benefit The Center for Integrative Medicine at EHMC.

On 12 March 2015 The Polish Institute of International Affairs, The German Marshall Fund of the United States and Heinrich Boll Stiftung organized the expert workshop at PISM in Warsaw titled: Integration and Disintegration in the Euro Area: Which Way Forward?

Since 2007, financial, sovereign debt and banking crises have put the euro area to a serious test. The governments and EU institutions have responded with rescue packages, ad-hoc institutional changes and domestic reform as well as consolidation programs. Since 2012, markets have calmed down and, compared to 2007/2008, the euro area has better tools to prevent and handle financial shocks and macro-economic imbalances. However, recent developments in a number of member states point to potential political crises in an environment of low growth and rising inequality that may undermine efforts to stabilize the euro area. The challenge is to bring back growth and employment and improve the governance of the euro area at a time of rising criticism of the EU. If the euro area is indeed further deepened, the question arises how non-euro area member states can be most closely involved with the currency union as a way to improve the chances of future accession.

A Psychology of Gesture (1945). Die Abbildung entstammt Malcolm McLaren’s Video Deep in Vogue von 1989.

In English:

This walk will reanimate "gesture" as a field of investigation so that participants might embody a more congruous and attentive way of moving through urban space. The movement of a hand. The position of an arm, a head, a body. A manner of being. A mode of action. Berlin as multipliCITY, as a city of multiplicity--of overlapping bodies, communities, laborers, cultures, languages, and gestures--is our common ground of research.

The group will catalogue postures that make up everyday life, paying special attention to how Berlin's history-dense present creates both dissonance as well as potential sites of commonality and shared humanity. The group will exchange and explore each other's bodily intelligence: locals will incorporate foreigners; foreigners will embrace tourists; tourists will move in step with locals. We will disappear into our surroundings and we will stand out. We will strike a pose, mirror a pose. Then we will resist the still image and move into a series of dissolving positions that gently disrupt binaries and open the potential for a lush continuum of belonging.

This walk holds 15 people and it is inspired by the work of Charlotte Wolff, a radical activist, scholar of lesbian sexuality and bisexuality, and groundbreaking psychologist who wrote A Psychology of Gesture after fleeing National Socialism in 1933. The image is a detail from Malcolm Mclaren's 1989 video "Deep in Vogue."

I ran TinyLetter.com/ICT4Djobs which was once a very nice paid subscription platform. Then in March, Mailchimp competed its integration of Tinyletter by converting the existing TinyLetter infrastructure to a new platform. In the process they said that they would leave paid subscriptions alone till June:

Don't worry, though: if you're currently running a paid newsletter, and you have more than 1 subscriber, we're leaving your account alone until July 1st 2012. Paid subscriber publishers will be left as-is (old interface and all), and moved to a new subdomain: p.tinyletter.com

Well they didn't leave my account alone. They are still billing 49 people for their ICT4DJobs subscription to Tinyletter but they are not sending me the money.

The screen shot on the left is my own paid subscription account I set up just to see how the TinyLetter paid subscription process works and as a check to make sure subscriptions went out. It was billed on April 21. On the right is my TinyLetter admin page showing I have both 49 subscribers who are still being billed, but a $0 balance in my account.

Even worse, if someone tries to unsubscribe, or if I try to unsubscribe them using the admin interface, we both get errors. So I cannot unsubscribe people, they can't unsubscribe themselves, they are still getting billed, and I am not receiving their subscription payments.

Why does the last part matter? Because I am now refunding people for their subscription payments they are paying and I am not receiving. I have attempted to reach support@tinyletter.com on April 3,4,6,7 and 13th, and since the 13th, no response to my support emails.

What I request is that TinyLetter:

1. Credit me for payments billed to my 49 subscribers from March 5th to present

2. Transfer full credit to my PayPal account of record

3. Stop billing anyone on behalf of ICT4Djobs

4. Unsubscribe everyone from TinyLetter.com/ICT4Djobs

These are the euro coins I have collected exclusively in Heidelberg, Germany.

I used to have some Irish euro coins too but I can't find them anymore. I'd probably spent them somewhere without knowing it.

And I have none of the euro coins from Monaco, Portugal, San Marino and Vatican. I hope I can get them in the future. And as far as I know, Finnish one cent is not in circulation. You have to buy them specifically. (I suspect the same applies to the Vatican euro coins too.)

And yes because of the poor light quality of my room, you can't see the detail of each coin. If I ever have the motivation again, I will take the photo once more under better condition. (A very big IF, that is.)

Light graffiti produced with Alex Heath and Tom Bridge. This one's a keeper too. I particularly like the way you can slightly see the red highlights on the person producing the light whereas the blue is unconnected.
