It didn't take them long at all to put in insulation. The plumbing and electricity took four men all day. This house has it's own little surprises. The cooktop wiriing came into the bathroom under the tub and had to be taken out. We did gain a few inces taking out the old cast iron plumbing stack.
this insulation arrived today, this little lot should keep the heat in the kitchen and the venitation bricks will let the air move... its all very technologically fabulous
I've had cavity wall insulation installed in my house today. They disturbed me more than they did Dilly!
Insulation cut to shape. Fortunately thte door was juuuust big enough to squeeze the insulation into the oven in two pieces. I was expecting to have to cut three pieces to get it in there.
I used a foil covered foam designed for engine compartment insulation. The overhead part is secured with nails and fender washers, to prevent slumping. The sides are glued with contact cement.
I used polystyrene foam intended for underfloor insulation. A hot wire cutter makes it very easy to work with. Sheets are 60mm thick at the sides. Bottom needs to be 80mm thick, so I used two additional 10mm thick pieces. Not shown in this pic are the triangular profile pieces for around the door opening.
