This is a work in progress from my final project at University. I'm constructing this instrument to perform, improvising with it.
I will play this rubbish instrument, plus use a stupid and conventional drum kit and perhaps add a boring guitar. Everything as good as a mess should be. chaos and order. paradox, simplicity, raw, theatre, playful, out of tune and out of everything.. whatever...

a sound compilation is available on the website! listen to it for free and buy it, if you can.
I wish I'd taken a note of what this strange double-keyboard instrument was now. I wonder if Andy Huntington will know?

Atabal is a modern mix of Puerto Rican rythmns like Bomba and Plena with an equal amount of Afro-caribbean influence.
Album Notes
Musically speaking, Atabal is best described as the direct influence of Africa in the Caribbean. Salsa, calypso, danzón, plena, bomba are just some of the rhythms that appear in this Puerto Rican group. They've placed drums as the forefront musical element in all their works and recordings. Today they have also integrated other instruments like : the Puerto Rican cuatro, a guitar, a bass, a trumpet, and a sax. To complete their unique sound, considered by critics as both traditional and modern , they use voices in harmony when presenting their songs accompanied by all these instruments as well as when they sing a capella . Atabal has traveled extensively for 17 years throughout Central and South America, Europe and the United States. They have also participated in concerts with El Gran Combo, Los Papines, Andy Montañez, Giovanni Hidalgo, Un solo pueblo, Tata Guines, Franco de Vita, José José, and many others.

The Markneukirchen Musical Instrument Museum has been situated since 1942 in the Paulus-Schlössel, a townsman’s home of the late baroque period, built in 1784. With over 3100 musical instruments from all over the world, the Museum houses resources unequaled on its scale, of interest to both amateurs and specialists. The many forms of the musical instruments, the richness of ideas, and the craftsmanship of the instrument makers fascinate the beholder. The museum was founded in 1883 through a trade society at the initiative of the teacher and organist Paul Apian-Bennewitz, who was anxious to create an educational establishment for musical instrument makers. There are numerous instruments which document the development of instrument making in the region of Vogtland as well as all over the world. Some interesting curiosities illustrate the bountiful skills of the instrument makers. Thus, one can see a tuba with a1.02 m daiameter bell an overall length of 4.65 m. www.museum-markneukirchen.de
