Band: Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out

That's Keith's banjo, Russell's guitar, Jerry's "bass,", and a wee bit of Wayne's mandolin. Justen's fiddle's out of the pic, but I got his shirttail....

These were all exposed twice on 35mm film using a Nikon FE-2. The first film was taken of landscapes and skylines before winding back the film (carefully) and shooting it again with pictures of musical instruments.

The Markneukirchen Musical Instrument Museum has been situated since 1942 in the Paulus-Schlössel, a townsman’s home of the late baroque period, built in 1784. With over 3100 musical instruments from all over the world, the Museum houses resources unequaled on its scale, of interest to both amateurs and specialists. The many forms of the musical instruments, the richness of ideas, and the craftsmanship of the instrument makers fascinate the beholder. The museum was founded in 1883 through a trade society at the initiative of the teacher and organist Paul Apian-Bennewitz, who was anxious to create an educational establishment for musical instrument makers. There are numerous instruments which document the development of instrument making in the region of Vogtland as well as all over the world. Some interesting curiosities illustrate the bountiful skills of the instrument makers. Thus, one can see a tuba with a1.02 m daiameter bell an overall length of 4.65 m. www.museum-markneukirchen.de

The block shelf at Banbury North signal box, seen here in August 1995. The block instrument shown reads to Fenny Compton, 6 miles further in the Down direction, with the block bell to the side of the instrument.

From the state of the block instrument, it looks like a Down train has been offered to and accepted by Fenny Compton box, but is not yet in the block section between the two boxes (upper indicator). Nothing is either occupying or expected on the Up line (lower indicator).

Mai Dinh Toi is a very famous musician in Vietnam with his special talent of creating his own instruments by found objects such as: water pipes, beer bottles, blower engine, vietnamese bowls, and etc...

Mai Dinh Toi has visited in the U.S. few times before. However, in this visit he wants to show America his talent and expand his reputation as much as he possibly could.

With an amazing and thrill style of performing, Mai Dinh Toi would be able to reach out to his audience without speaking the language.

If this xylophone could talk, I'm sure it would complain about being beaten by mallets.

I'm not much of a musician, but I like instruments. I find many of them (but not all) rather beautiful with many interesting details. When looking at this old photo though, I'm mostly wondering what that reflection on the left is...
