Behind the bricks story:
Some time ago I had a customer that came to me and wanted a commission.
He wanted the Apollo IE or this AMG project one. Both amazing cars and we decided on the Apollo. The Mercedes was still a concept back then.
Last summer Mercedes announced that there would be 275 units produced, which all sold out. When the news came out and it became “real” I needed to build it. So here it is. My Brick build rendition of the Project one.
This rendition features openable doors. And an active spoiler which was hard to make since the rear only sticks out 3,5 studs and the technic piece I used for it, needed to be 5 studs in height. This needed to be this long so that the spoiler could move up just high enough that it would sit right under the fin on the back.
This creation also features 3D-printed door frames, canards and wheels. (The wheels took me some time 😂)

Real car stats:
It’s assisted by two electric motors, one to boost the engine and one fitted to the F1-style turbocharger. Combined, the engine and motors produce 1,063hp
Mercedes claim that this car will do 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds, and 0-124mph in under six seconds. The top speed is over 217mph.
Oh yeah and the car will be sold for around 2.7M USD .
Chances that you’ll be able to own one of these are close to none but building this scale model out of bricks can be done. Head over to my website and there you’ll be able to get the preorder in. Instructions will be available late December.

Do you remember your first LEGO set? In celebration of #LEGO90YEARS here’s a recreation of when little Ryry received his first #LEGO set for Christmas in 1987. It was “Basic Building Set 317” and it would lay the foundation for a lifelong love of the bricks and a successful professional LEGO career.

This is my LEGO version of the McLaren P1. It has around a thousand pieces and it took me 2 weeks to design. The doors and spoiler are functional as the real version. Enjoy!

Design Insights XLIX
Roman architectural history has always been a two-way street. In one lane, there are the tangible pieces of evidence attesting to provenance, like stamped bricks which firmly date a structure to a specific time period and probable patron. In the opposite lane, the breakneck speed of imperial propaganda might well be the only story that survives to this day, just as, I suspect, the patron(s) of any project would have intended.
I specifically chose the example of opposing lanes of traffic for the Thermæ Alexandrinæ as it perfectly describes the friction of evidence versus narrative therein. On the one hand, the vanishingly few excavations carried out on the site have revealed remnants of an elaborate baths complex with building material firmly dating its construction to the third century reign of Alexander Severus. On the other hand, the complex is still interchangeably referred to as the Baths of Alexander [Severus] and as the Baths of Nero. But Nero's claim to the baths on this site are far less certain and much more circumstantial.
The Baths of Nero were built on or near this site, according to multiple sources. Nero's proclivities toward excess, however, resulted in backlash which saw many of his architectural projects either torn down or used as foundations for later overbuilding. Were the Baths of Alexander built on top of Nero's baths? Were Alexander's baths arranged according to the imperial thermæ standard, or did Nero's baths set that standard 150 years earlier? These are just some of the many questions we shall ask - but inevitably fall short of answering - as we explore the Thermæ Alexandrinæ.

Brookside Mansion
I am very proud to unveil my most challenging work to date, The Brookside Mansion! The mansion was originally constructed in 1889 by the industrialist John H. Bass. It now serves as the administration building for the University of Saint Francis, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The Sisters of Saint Francis of Perpetual Adoration acquired the building in 1944 and converted it into a university. Originally the mansion was the only building to house the university but, as the university campus grew, it served in many roles and, as mentioned, now serves as the administration building.
In 2009, the Sisters began a restoration of the building and did an breath taking job of bringing it back to its original glory while modernizing it where needed.
It is truly a spectacular architectural delight and a dream design for any LEGO designer. I was truly honoured to be chosen for such a monumental task.

Design Insights XLV
What do you see when you close your eyes and imagine the ancient past? Visions of golden ornamentation and impossibly captured poses rendered in crisp statuary are likely to abound in your mind's eye. But what can you glean of the background; the setting in which all the trappings and fine objects are placed? You might not have a specific landmark in mind, but it's likelier than not that the surrounding architecture assumes a platonic likeness, which can be distilled to those two most primal elements, the circle and the square.
The Pantheon in Rome is one of the most enduringly iconic landmarks of antiquity and is certainly the most well-preserved large building of its time. It has succeeded on several fronts: most obviously in its remarkable durability, but also in its unrivaled structural innovations, and most importantly, I would argue, its transcendent harmonizing of the circle and the square. We find these ideal forms at the very foundation of every found object, every work of art and every architectural plan across every culture in recorded history.
It should come as no surprise then, that the Pantheon is at the very top of my own list of all-time favorite structures ever built! My relatively reticent approach toward superlatives never stood a chance when I walked through the ancient doors of the portico for the first time in 2019. It's the quintessential interlocking of the two most basic elements of design, echoing across time and a lofty interior vault, that does it for me. I can think of no better way to introduce my interpretation of the Pantheon in the latest Design Insights post, available now to all my patrons (not just the usual Corinthians).

Jumbo Forestman 🎯
This is my Forestman reskin of 40649 Up-Scaled LEGO Minifigure that was released back in June. Apart of a WindyCityLUG collaborative project on making scaled up macrofigs. It's been really cool to see both our LUG's and the broader community's take on "reskinning" the set. My figure takes some style cues from 40504 A Minifigure Tribute in that some printed elements on the torso are "raised" to be more three dimensional. Forestmen has always been my favorite Castle sub-theme so it was great to pay homage to this OG theme.
Trying to recolor the set presented some interesting problems as the original design of 40649 did not have a few pieces in green. 4460b Slope 75 2 x 1 x 3 - Hollow Stud was one of the toughest on the torso, so I had to get SNOTy with it. 70681 Arch 1 x 3 Inverted was also missing but has since been just released this month in green with the 71426 Piranha Plant. Still happy with the cheese slope work around. The hardest challenge of all, however, we designing the hat and trying to nail the proportions.
Shoutout to Simon Liu on critical feedback during the editing process.
