Insight Vacations held its annual conference over three days last week, with sales managers and management from all over the country and NZ converging in Sydney.
The event saw business updates, team bonding sessions, guest presentations and gala dinners, including a rooftop BBQ dinner and drinks at George St’s Holiday Inn and a 60’s inspired evening on a private harbour cruise.
Pictured on board the harbour cruise having a peace-full night out on the water from left are: Insight’s Jasmin Abrahams, marketing coordinator; Kate Boscolo, groups coordinator; Jodene Dallas, group sales coordinator; Lorraine Sharp, managing director; Robyn Brown, sales BDM, NSW; Jo Dick, national sales and marketing supervisor; Katrina Lathouras, sales support coordinator.
Parcevall Hall Gardens are a lasting testament to the remarkable insight of Sir William Milner (1893-1960), 8th Baronet of Nun Appleton, nr York; who in 1927 began on a project to rebuild the derelict 16th /early 17th century shell of Parcevall Hall at Skyreholme, near Appletreewick in North Yorkshire.
Sir William, although standing at a formidable 6’7”, had the reputation of being a gentle giant and despite his title, and having HRH Queen Mary, a frequent visitor to Parcevall Hall, as his Godmother, he was a reluctant socialite.
The final major project of Sir William’s lifetime was as a founder member and second Honorary Director of the Northern Horticultural Society (1955-60), pioneering the establishment and development of Harlow Carr Gardens, near Harrogate.
Once completed, the Hall was to become Sir William’s home for thirty years and he continued to develop the gardens up to his death. Sir William took full advantage of the geography to create a unique garden that provides year round interest.
As a gardener Sir William chose his site wisely. At the top of the gardens the alkaline soil overlays the limestone rock and at the foot of the hill the soil is acid over gritstone, which makes it ideal for a wide range of species and many of Sir William’s hybrid rhododendrons.
For the horticulturist an extensive range of specialist plants flourish throughout the year. This includes an interesting collection of old apple varieties. A wide variety of alpine and woodland plants, unusual perennials and many specimen trees and shrubs.
Visitors will find formal terraces provide vantage points from where they can pause to appreciate the stunning rocky outcrop of Simons Seat
The structured areas are balanced with woodlands that are a haven for wildlife, inter-linked with many garden rooms to discover on the way. For the energetic, a Cliff Walk overlooking the limestone valley of Trollers Gill provides a dramatic vista.
After Sir William’s death the gardens declined up to the mid 1980s. A restoration program commenced; forever changing the gardens are enjoying a vibrant renaissance having been returned to its former glory
But the work does not stop there, the gardens continue to evolve.
The Hall itself is not open to garden visitors and since 1963, has been used by the Bradford Diocese as a retreat house and conference centre; its architectural features can be appreciated at close range from several vantage points.

I went a little overboard. 20x exposure HDR just to see what it would be like. Photomatix didn't even blink an eye. Other processing in Silver Efex Pro.
NASA's InSight lander deployed its Wind and Thermal Shield on Feb. 2 (Sol 66). The shield covers InSight's seismometer, which was set down onto the Martian surface on Dec. 19. For the past several weeks, NASA's InSight lander has been making adjustments to the seismometer it set on the Martian surface on Dec. 19. Now it's reached another milestone by placing a domed shield over the seismometer to help the instrument collect accurate data. The seismometer will give scientists their first look at the deep interior of the Red Planet, helping them understand how it and other rocky planets are formed.
Just found out this sold at the recent Harris Collective show in Elora.
It's an 11x14 ballpoint pen (with some brush pen) version of "Insight" posted earlier here, done after that one sold.
Unfortunately this reproduction isn't the best - doesn't do justice to the detail of pen lines.

A streamlined workflow is imperative to managing schedule and risk on a construction site. Insight-WFP was brought on board a USD 450 million construction project by a Houston oil refinery to implement an Advanced Work Packaging System in an environment where construction planning was typically done on the fly. The goal was to free up the foremen to supervise safety, productivity, and quality.
Insight-WFP employed ConstructSim to facilitate this process. ConstructSim provided the virtual construction model and document control needed to manage information. The use of 4D simulations to visualize schedules kept workers on track, while progress was recorded for use in planning the next stages of construction. Using ConstructSim and Advanced Work Packaging best practices, the project was completed 6 weeks early and yielded an ROI of USD 36 million.
The Insight features a highly efficient 1.3-liter, i-VTEC® 4-cylinder engine. It works together with the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) electric motor which supplies additional power and torque in assist mode. The IMA's ultra-thin design allows it to be mounted between the engine and the transmission. The IMA motor also functions as the generator for the IMA® system during deceleration, and as a starter, quickly spinning the engine up to idle speed.
