También conocidas como mosca-abeja son totalmente inofensivas. Su patrón de lineas amarillas y negras, símbolo de peligrosidad, son un ejemplo de mimetismo Batesiano para “disfrazarse” de posibles depredadores, aparentando lo que no son.
També conegudes com a mosca-abella són totalment inofensives. El seu patró de línies grogues i negres, símbol de perillositat, són un exemple de mimetisme Batesià per a “disfressar-se” de possibles depredadors, aparentant el que no són.
Also known as the bee-fly, they are completely harmless. Their pattern of yellow and black lines, a symbol of danger, is an example of Batesian mimicry to “disguise” themselves as potential predators, appearing to be what they are not.

Gifted with long slender legs and a lean body, they violently shake the web when disturbed to blur the vision of predator.
This one was a lot of fun to get a photo of. They never stop moving and semi hover on the flower while feeding.
Would have to be in the top two butterflies we have here. Sadly they are struggling at the moment with numbers at a all time low from what is thought to be a viral infection although with out funding for more research it is doubtful the cause will be known for sure. Most wild Ulysses being seen are males. There is now concerns about species extinction if action is not taken now.

The female of the species is different from the male in that she has little crescents of blue in the back, upside sections of her hindwings, where there is only black for males. When the butterfly is perched the intense blue of its wings is hidden by the plainer brown under side of its wings, helping it to blend in with its surroundings. When in flight, the butterfly can be seen hundreds of metres away as sudden bright blue flashes. Males are strongly attracted to the colour blue, including blue objects which are sometimes mistaken for females.

Saltamontes narigudo.
Este simpático bichito ortóptero tremendamente parecido a los "bicho palo" o "insecto palo" no pertenece a la familia de los Fásmidos como estos últimos, perteneciendo a la familia Acrididae. En España existen dos especies casi idénticas, Truxalis nasuta y Acrida ungarica. Creo que la que he fotografiado es Truxalis nasuta. Fotografía realizada en en Río Guadalmedida de Málaga.
