This is a photograph from the 5th annual running the East of Ireland Marathons Staplestown Marathon and Half Marathon road races which were held in the village of Staplestown, Donadea, Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Saturday 21st January 2017 at 09:00. The event is organised by East of Ireland Marathons with local support and input. The races all started and ended in the village of Staplestown which is about 2 miles from the entrance to Donadea Forest Park. All races were held on the same loop of approximately 10KM in distance where the marathon runners covered 4 loops plus a short out and back sections. The half marathoners covered 2 loops and some out and back. The loop is well known to local runners as it connects the village of Staplestown with the larger village of Properous, Co. Kildare. Weather conditions were very cold as a night frost brought ground temperatures down to well below zero degrees celsius.

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

Virginia Beach is home to beginner, intermediate, and professional level skateboarders and bike riders who are passionate about their sport. The community's input was crucial in the development of this skate park, which began construction in September 2020.

As you enter from the parking lot into the main entrance, the skate park experience begins in the lower level of this 30,000-square foot skate park. This level features a well-rounded mix of transitional and street elements. The street course area contains features like custom ledges, rails, hips, wall rides, an A-frame ledge, and a long-curved transition wall catering to all skill levels and disciplines of riders. This area is highly visible and includes shade structures for viewing and resting, as well as native plantings. You can also access the back area of this level and the upper-level street course using the connector sidewalk, without crossing the rideable area and interrupting the users.

ADA compliant access and stairs provide access to the upper level of the park. The upper level is wide open for warming up, flat skating, and performing technical tricks. This level features unique skateable art pieces, a bank to ledge, a china bank with hip, and varying flat ledge and flat rail setups. There is an additional entrance to this level and the snake run and bowl areas as you enter from the north side of the parking lot via sidewalk and stairs.

During this two-year project, HRSD and Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation renovated Woodstock Park, including the pavilions, parking, park restroom, and playground as well as building a cutting-edge skate facility for all skill levels on top of a 5.2 million gallon offline wet weather storage tank. The partnership also allows VBPR to carry out significant park renovations simultaneously and share the costs with HRSD, ultimately saving taxpayer dollars.

According to the educational theory of sensory input, physically engaging (kinesthetic) with a subject gives much stronger impression than text or visual presentation only. So this strategy of letting young citizens try on the police role by wearing a small uniform is perhaps the most effective way to make kids acquainted with the police presence and purpose in daily life. "Show me the boy of seven and I will show you the man" is attributed to the Jesuit schools where early experiences and impressions are accepted for being very influential in a person's later life.

Throughout February 2009, the New Jersey State Library, the New Jersey Library Association and libraries throughout New Jersey plan to honor the legacy of Abraham Lincoln, as part of the national Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commemoration, by collecting pennies.

Lincoln firmly believed in education, equality, opportunity and peace. To help continue his legacy, the State Library and NJLA are encouraging New Jersey libraries to participate in the Lincoln Pennies for Peace Campaign. All funds collected will be donated to Pennies for Peace which collects funds for the Central Asia Institute co-founded by Greg Mortenson, the subject of the bestselling biography, “Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace… One School At A Time.” The money will be used to build school libraries in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Digital Dance Context Description

I found a dance event called Ministry of Trance. Overall, there is a lot of sensory input coming from this event. There are a lot of bright lights, upbeat electronic dance music, and a lot of noises and chats coming from the other users attending the dance event. Every avatar that was there at the event looks like they were wearing something appropriate for clubbing. The floor was lit up with LED flashing lights and disco lighting that would move around the dance floor.

Color: The color scheme was predominately blue and green. There was an occasional flash of pink and yellow from the lights that came up from under the dance floor. The floor had a neon green logo with a darker shade of green that read "Ministry of Trance."

Attire: As I mentioned above many people were dressed formally as if they were going clubbing. Jeans, jacket, polo, dresses. However, there were several that stood out. Some of the female avatars, were wearing almost swim suits or a crop top with a mini skirt that didn't cover much. I also spotted a guy wearing a full suit.

Songs: There was a playlist of many different trance songs that were being played one after another. I don't know the names of any of them, but they were all high tempo electric dance music beats.

Dance Movements: The dance movement that mine and many other avatars did contained a routine of rotating and maneuvering appendages in a flow like way. There was a significant amount of bobbing as well. The bobbing was particularly fast because the BPM’a of the songs were in the higher ranges for the songs. I noticed a segment where the dancers would kick each leg and then execute a swirl in unison.

Y axis: incident energy per square meter as measured at the University of Washington, in joules per square meter. The top line, 30000000 J/m^2, is about 8.3 kilowatt-hours per square meter.

X axis: day of year

The same is composed of minutely recordings at the UW between Jan 1 2006 and Jan 1 2010.

A few features pop out to me. First, it's interesting to note that through December to the end of January, insolation around 1 MJ/m^2 is not uncommon, a factor of 25 less than a typical insolation of 25 MJ/m^2 in July. The average household uses about 110 MJ/day. To power a household during the summer would take only about 4 square meters of (100% efficient) panels, during winter an average household would require over 100 square meters of (impossibly efficient) panels, or a square ten meters on a side.

This graph also shows the characteristic cloud cover at different times of year. A greater spread indicates more clouds. A tighter grouping towards the top of the graph indicates clear weather. It's more cloudy in winter, and the sun comes out reliably between the summer solstice into late October.

Finally, total energy input at ground level is a metric with one of the greatest level of spread because it's influenced by a combination of two properties that move together - the total sunlight time and the angle of sunlight. As a result, whereas both the angle of sunlight and total sunlight hours might seem to improve painfully slowly through the spring, the total insolation is really hopping to new highs every couple of days. If you're a SAD-sufferer looking for hope through January and February, keep your eyes on this metric.
