Staffin Island is an uninhabited islet off the east coast of the Trotternish peninsula of Skye in Scotland. The Norse name may have been Fladdaidh meaning "flat island". The Gaelic name Eilean Stafainn has the same meaning as the modern English name which is taken from the nearby settlement of Staffin.
A more intimate scene looking at the peaks whilst at the Quiraing on the Isle of Skye.
I've been playing around with this image, changing it from colour to black and white and I was never convinced (no matter how hard I tried) that this image worked in B&W. In colour it was OK but again I wasn't 100% with it until I decreased the saturation around 50% which I think works really well!
It is easy to overlook these on Mull, where Golden and White-Tailed Eagles tend to steal the show, but they are an impressive looking raptor in their own right.
Castle Stalker – in the Gaelic, Stalcaire, meaning Hunter or Falconer – is believed originally to have been the site of a Fortalice (a small fortified building) belonging to the MacDougalls when they were Lords of Lorn, and built around 1320.
Castle Stalker is a four-storey tower house or keep picturesquely set on a tidal islet on Loch Laich, an inlet off Loch Linnhe. It is about 1.5 miles north-east of Port Appin, Argyll, Scotland.

My final three eagle shots from this trip - more images can be viewed in my ’Mull - Sea Eagles’ photo set on my website.
"Farewell to an old friend..."
Of course it is a bit ridiculous to think an eagle could ever be your 'friend' but it only seems right to pay tribute to a majestic bird who graced the skies of The Isle of Mull for many years. Many Flickr friends will have seen and photographed this eagle from "The Lady Jayne". The first time I saw him appear and fly alongside the boat will stay with me forever - you can't really put into words what seeing a White Tailed Eagle up close is truly like.
Very sadly this male White Tailed Eagle was killed recently by a rival male - his death confirmed (and identified from his leg ring) while we were on Mull two weeks ago.
His mother was one of the original birds released during the reintroduction of White Tailed Eagles to Scotland and he himself fathered many chicks that are now part of an increasing and thriving population of WTE in these parts.
A younger male has already paired with the female from the Killiechronan territory - so life goes on and a new generation of eagles will no doubt breed here and also soar the skies of the Highlands & Islands of Western Scotland.
R.I.P. to a stunning bird who amazed many a visitor to the Isle of Mull

Exploring the Isle of Skye was a mixed bag. On the one hand I got to explore and experience nature at its finest. On the other hand I understood just how a location could become a shadow of its past self very easily if steps are not made to stem the flow of tourists, especially during the high season.
From my experience there are other islands in Scotland that are of equal beauty to the Isle of Skye that don't attract the masses which is where I'd go again.
Have you been? What did you think?
Sandaigh; Scots: Sandee) is one of the Small Isles, in the Scottish Inner Hebrides. It is a tidal island linked to its larger neighbour, Canna, via sandbanks at low tide, and also connected to the larger island by a bridge. Canna and Sanday form a single community, and are usually described as Canna.Like its neighbour, Canna, the whole island is owned by the National Trust for Scotland (NTS), and is part of the Lochaber committee area of Highland Council. Whereas Canna is run by the NTS as a single farm, parts of Sanday are used for crofting.
Unlike the other Small Isles Rum has large areas of Torridonean Sandstone in the North and East. Dating from some 1000 million years ago they were laid down when Scotland was near the South Pole. How times change.
This photo of a defunct rowing boat, marked OB 222, was taken on the Isle of Ulva.
Ulva is a small island to the west of Mull. A ferry takes visitors across the short stretch of water that separates Ulva from Mull.
In June 2018, thanks to a crowd-funding appeal and local fundraising, the isle of Ulva passed into community ownership using the provisions of Scotland’s Community Right to Buy legislation.
The sun rises over the Isle of Eigg to illiminate the clouds lingering over the majestic Rum Cuillins. Taken near an outflow of water on the beach at Laigg as the tide comes in, I went for an ethereal look where the fringes of land and sea meld together.
