One of 6 species to be found in the UK and sometimes known as the Assassin fly. They can be found in scrubby grasslands and woodland edges. These flies are aerial or ambush hunters with excellent eyesight and will stab their prey and inject a protein dissolving saliva in which to kill and help digest their prey.
What's even real? It's not even about flesh or plastic anymore. Might as well tear it all away.

Insect predator. 0.5in (12.70mm) length. Wide variety of prey including flies, caterpillars, beetles, mosquitoes, etc. Although most assassin bugs are slow-moving and non-aggressive, they will use their rostrum in self-defense if handled carelessly. Such bites may be rather painful to humans because the bugs inject the same salivary secretion used to dissolve the tissues of their prey. This results in the death of a small area of cells at the site of the bite.

In dit mooie pand geeft Schumacher zijn "injectables" en nog heel veel meer mocht je zin hebben in een totale make-over van het uiterlijk.
Bij deze foto prefereer ik de zwart/wit versie ver boven de kleuren
Something began pulsating when they injected me and in my head I thought it wouldn't be long and I would soon be in the daylight. I was being given instructions and counselled patiently, by voices, and I could not move. I was staring at this picture projected on the wall, this picture of you I had taken when you were sitting on the couch at our house. I was so afraid and alone, and I wanted to touch you… I remember tracing your smile on the wall, your eyes, the mellow descent of your nose… lost in your face as my mind was slowly dissolving and being laboriously recomposed elsewhere… the shreds and islands of silver under my hands, fused in my reluctant and paralysed disbelief, memories of you like rain thought my eyes. Something began pulsating when they injected me and in my head I thought it wouldn't be long and I would soon be in the daylight.
8x10 darkroom print
This is an experimental darkroom print from my "Aftermath" series. I am really happy that this print was purchased to be used in an album cover by a Japanese band Calme Adiction. Here is a link to where it appears calmeadiction.bandcamp.com/track/land-of-ulcer-live-ver
Also I'm really happy how the solarization turned out, it's a pretty hard darkroom technique.
Aftermath is a photography series I created during the pandemic, using a range of experimental techniques to explore the human condition in times of crisis. By employing methods such as film soup, developing color film with black-and-white chemistry, and innovative and alternative darkroom printing, I aimed to reflect the uncertainties and disruptions of the era. The work delves into themes of resilience, vulnerability, and the broader existential challenges posed by capitalism, offering a layered social commentary on our shared experiences during turbulent times.
Dolores, you had a golden voice, a world of yours that spoke to us all ... You died on Monday but you will remain forever in our heart ...

" To all the people doing lines
Don't do it, don't do it
Inject your soul with liberty
It's free, it's free
To all the kids with heroin eyes
Don't do it, don't do it
'Cause it's not, not what it seems
Oh no it's not, not what it seems
Salvation, Salvation, Salvation is free
Salvation, Salvation, Salvation is free
To all the parents with sleepless nights
Sleepless nights
Tie your kids home to their beds
Clean their heads
To all the kids with heroin eyes
Don't do it, don't do it
'Cause it's not, not what it seems
No no it's not, not what it seems
Salvation, Salvation, Salvation is free
Salvation, Salvation, Salvation is free ... "

My Shop :
With just a pinch and a dash
instilled silence beyond the Ash
Parus caeruleus play the tune
recalling a twilight's tribune
a mood so completely overthrown
by operatives as yet unknown
handle me with care I know-
not what the future will bestow
in it's subtitled timelessness;
driven to distraction and numbness
a cold raining down of sobriety
revamps the shivers so sharply
this tingling, sensationally borderline
from morbidity and a life divine
give in or give up is optically offered
at the end of a needle, nothing bettered
in the hours upon days I await
for it is still the weeks I cannot translate
into the simplified language of today
words to fit the here and now please say
something to ease and allay my fears
paralyses keep me walking in mind
only Iberian chillouts, music enshrined
keep me going as the athlete of hope
for I'm a surgical-citizen 'walking' a tightrope
in time that isn't on my side, nor in my presence
so it's to Nature that I seek Her finest treatments.

All-in-all, this past week has been a bit rubbish, heartbreakingly traumatic funeral, follow-up hospital visit after surgery on my foot (thanks, chemo) and a healthy dose of poison via canula. I am grateful that this weird drug has been invented and that I'm able to have it, so many in the United Kingdom are denied this treatment because they're caught up in the post code lottery, but it's still tough having it. I am achy in my bones and really longing for a chilled glass of wine, but we don't have any in the house so it'll be a long longing...
Oh what fun we had, you can see by the look on Seth's face, this is the technical bit !!!!!

Please fave this photo so it can make explore and reach many more people for support of this plight.
This protest is from a group that runs a program to help addicts have a clean and safe environment for injection. It is the only one of the four pillars approach that has been implemented. It saves lives by giving the addict a clean place to shoot up and less risk of overdose as they have nurses that monitor the users. They have prevented many deaths and therefore a savings on the medical system.
The Conservative government had the RCMP raid their site in the morning for no apparent reason. This gov't says they want to help addicts and yet they want to cut funding of this unique site.
I personally don't condone injectible drugs, but it is not my place to judges those who do for they are not all in that position by choice. I think prevention and detention are not a cure totally. There has to be a sustainable effort to treat and support people who live in the poorest district of this country. The lower standard of living makes drugs more of an escape with no positive outcome. This is only one program that a right wing government feels is not an issue during an election. There are many more issues affecting the poor that have only been discussed by the parties vying to prove they are for the people and not just big business.
Let's hope this election creates a new direction for the people who fly under the radar of politcal hiearchy and gets acknowledgement for support and funding.

Robber flies, also called assassin flies, attack their prey in midair and are known to kill wasps, bees, grasshoppers and dragonflies. The fly grabs its prey with its legs, injects nerve toxins and digestive enzymes, and sucks out the prey's insides.
Enjoy your weekend.
I injected some flowers with Agave Nectar to give this Honeybee a reason to let me get close. Even though this shot is cropped I kept the aspect ratio the same as the un-cropped image (2:3) and Photoshop Elements 2022 up-sampled it, so it is still a 32MP photo.
Tech Specs: Canon 90D (F11, 1/125, ISO 200) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (set to about 1.5x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT, E-TTL metering, -2/3 FEC. This is a single, cropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Denoise AI and Clarity in that order. Shutter and ISO set to expose the sky in the background.

The ghostly figure of one Falmouth's seafront shelters.
Heavy rain kept me from going our early in the morning, so I headed out with the camera at mid-day.
With uninspiring noon light, I tried using ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) to inject mood and mystery.
I've tried "straight shots" of this shelter in the past - conceding that I really need a lens with a slightly shorter focal length.
This might turn into a little project over the next couple of days - with the forecast weather not conducive to my usual kind of photography.

A friend was reading about Bifurcate Trashline Orbweavers, Allocyclosa bifurca. Research in Costa Rica says a wasp, Polysphincta gutfreundi, parasitizes them. Her question was, are those wasps also in South Texas? Anyone know? One was recorded in El Cielo, Tamaulipas so it seems likely.
A paper by Eberhard says, "Wasps of the Polysphincta clade are known to manipulate the behavior of their web-building spider hosts by injecting psychotropic chemicals,..."

Technique: I injected artificial nectar into a Lavender flower and when the honeybee started feeding on it I grabbed onto the stem of the lavender flower with my left hand, and then rested the lens on that same hand to help keep the scene steady. Then we played a game where I'd frame and compose the scene only for her to move at the last second ;)
Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 200 with highlight tone priority) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (over 2x) + a diffused MT-24EX (both flash heads on the Canon flash mount, E-TTL metering with -1 1/3 FEC, second curtain sync). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. Image taken in 2016 but I'm just now getting around to processing it.
