Smaller than a normal business card, but displaying double the information with a huge type for numbers (and quite a good sized one for weekdays).
As seen on Kottke.
Print at 300 dpi (ie: 2 inches high), fold on the vertical lines, and tape the ends. For any particular month, just fold it flat so the month is in the top-left corner. The color of the month matches the last day of that month (April, June in white, and September, November in grey have 30 days, February in grey has 29 days--leap year!, and all the other months have 31 days).
A poster created to inform the viewer about the Orgone chair, a piece of internationally acclaimed designer Marc Newson.
Just right to leave some space for branding in the business card. (And remember only one side is being used!)

An early experiment in Toki Pona in which I translate the Lord Prayer's from Toki Pona to Spanish, but taking an extra step for a *very* literal translation. It was meant as an introduction to the wonderful and unique new worldview that Toki Pona offers you. I liked the way it turned out a lot, but I may have to declare it a failure since most of the reactions have been prettty bad so far.

I finally found a way to correct the onscreen deviations in Excel 2007. How platonically ideal and perfect the digital version seems!

The color of the month matches the last day of that month (April, June, September, November in grey have 30 days, February in white has 28 days, and all the other months have 31 days).
To see the finished product, here's the front, and back.
The main thing, it seems, for a calendar is to see the date, hence the large numbers. And really, mostly what you care about is the current month. So, mostly, you just roll the calendar to the current month, stick it in your wallet, and that's that. Hence the small months.
Regarding the days of the week, if the current view is only seven days wide, mostly showing the days of the week is redundant. One great visual is to alternate the color of the columns (a bitch to do in Paint Shop Pro 5.0, which is all I had at the moment, leading to this necessary minimalism).
One way to handle holidays, add a superscript of the month to the day of the month. So, for example, for the Fourth of July, put a little 7 (for July) next to the number 4. Simple, discreet, and grabs enough attention as it deserves. It turns out there's only one "overlap", both New Years and Labor Day occur on the first of the month.
Check out the bling version, too.

Daniel Mennill and Stéphanie Doucet (former students/postdocs) set up a microphone in the territory of two Rufous-and-white Wrens in Costa Rica. The array of microphones in this territory, each recording into a different channel of a sound file, indicates where each bird is singing during duets. By Dale Morris; Birdscope Winter 2009, p1. Permission to use online granted by Dan Mennill, with stipulation that it must include credit to Dale Morris.

This was just a quick experiment to see how much you needed two colored rows. Wouldn't just one color (and white) suffice? No, turns out you really need two or visual chaos would ensue.
